Iowa State football may be without its top running back for its Week 7 game against Colorado on Oct. 11.
On Tuesday, Cyclones’ coach Matt Campbell said that running back Carson Hansen is questionable to play against the Buffaloes.
“From Carson’s standpoint, probably questionable right now is still the status that’s probably right to say,” Campbell said during his Tuesday press conference. “He’s a tough kid, really trying to get himself back and we’ll see where he is by Wednesday, Thursday and see if he’s available for us.”
Hansen was unable to play during the second half of Iowa State’s loss to Cincinnati after suffering a concussion, according to Campbell. The junior has been the team’s leading rusher through the first six games of the season, posting 348 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 4.40 yards per carry. Hansen also has 11 catches for 88 yards on the year.
If Hansen is unable to go against the Buffaloes, junior Abu Sama III will be expected to have a larger role in the offense. The Southeast Polk graduate has 304 yards rushing and two scores on the year, with a season-high 96 yards coming during the loss to the Bearcats.
Hansen’s status will become clearer Wednesday night when the Big 12 releases its first of four official injury reports at 9 p.m. CT. The running back will be officially listed as either out, questionable, probable or available.
