An app that allows customers to buy restaurant food at steep discounts will launch in the Indianapolis area soon. The Too Good To Go app enables diners to purchase unsold food from nearby restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and convenience stores, with some offering bags of food for more than 50% off.Recent deals in Indiana have included $18 worth of goodies from Pot & Pans Pie Co. for $5.99 and $50 worth of frozen sausages from Old Major Market for $16.66.
In addition to local restaurants, the app works with national brands, including Whole Foods and Circle K.
What is Too Good To Go?
With a mission to reduce food waste and slow climate change, Too Good To Go launched in Europe in 2016 and operates in 19 countries. It expanded to the U.S. in 2020.
How the Too Good To Go app works
A user would open the app to find local restaurants with pickup times and prices for goods. Most offerings are Surprise Bags, the contents of which customers won’t know until they pick them up.
A customer pays through the app and picks up their orders during the designated period, usually right before a shop’s closing time or early the next day.
When Too Good To Go launches in Indianapolis
After working with a few brands in the Indianapolis area for more than a year, Too Good To Go will ramp up operations here in late July and launch full scale on August 25, a spokesperson told IndyStar. The app expects to start with 30 to 50 new locations the week of July 21 and add others up through its official launch and beyond.
