Veterans Day is next week. Is it a federal holiday? Are banks closed? Is the post office open?

Hoosiers who need to mail a letter, visit their bank or those who have business at the BMV might want to run their errands ahead of Veterans Day, which honors the women and men who served in the United States military.

Some businesses and other services across Indiana will be closed in observance of Veterans Day. Here’s what Hoosiers should know.

When is Veterans Day 2025?

Veterans Day this year falls on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Is Veterans Day a federal holiday?

Yes, Veterans Day is a federal holiday listed on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. There are two more federal holidays left in the year — Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Are banks open on Veterans Day?

No, it’s a federal holiday, so branches of Bank of America, Truist, PNC, Capital One, Wells Fargo and many other banks will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day.

Is the post office open on Veterans Day? Will mail be delivered?

All U.S. post offices will be closed on Veterans Day and mail will not be delivered.

Are UPS and FedEx open on Veterans Day?

UPS pickup and delivery services will be available on Tuesday, Nov. 11, however, UPS Ground Saver and UPS Mail Innovations deliveries will require one additional business day’s time in transit due to the federal holiday.

UPS Store locations also will be open.

FedEx will be open Tuesday. Pickup and delivery will be available, and FedEx Office locations will be open for Veterans Day.

All branches of Indiana’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles are closed Tuesday in observance of Veterans Day. Branches will resume regularly scheduled business hours Wednesday, Nov. 12.
