MUNCIE, IN — An online threat targeting Delta High School resulted in additional law enforcement officers at the school on Monday, Sept. 29.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Department is “working on an active investigation of a potential threat” that Delaware Community Schools administrators became aware of Sunday, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley.
Stanley said his department had “multiple units” at the school on Monday morning and would again at the end of the school day.
“We believe we know who is responsible (for) the threat and are working to speak with all parties involved,” the chief deputy said.
Stanley said he did not believe “there is an actual threat” but said the incident is being taken seriously.
In a message to parents, Greg Kile, Del-Com superintendent, acknowledged a “threatening school media post” referring to Delta High School.
“We are working with local law enforcement, state law enforcement and have also made a report to the FBI in an effort to identify the source of the post,” Kile wrote.
The superintendent said an “increased law enforcement presence in and around our campuses” was likely.
He said officials will “continue to take every measure necessary to ensure our schools are a safe place to learn and work.”
