The Browns are doing something to fix their woeful offensive tackle situation.
A league source confirmed for the Beacon Journal that Cleveland is acquiring tackle Cam Robinson from the Houston Texans. The teams will swap late-round picks in the 2027 draft, with the Browns sending their sixth-round pick to the Texans for their seventh-round selection.
“Yeah, I’ve not spoken to Cam just yet, but obviously is a guy that we’re excited to bring in here,” coach Kevin Stefanski said on a Zoom call Sept. 29, prior to an official announcement from the team. “We’ve had injuries at the position, as you know. So having guys that have started multiple games and played well is obviously an important part for us.”
Robinson, a 2017 second-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars out of Alabama, has played in three games this season with Houston, but only started the opener against the Los Angeles Rams at left tackle. He played special teams in Weeks 2 and 3 before being inactive for Houston’s Week 4 win over the Tennessee Titans.

The Texans had signed Robinson to a one-year deal this past offseason. Jacksonville traded Robinson to the Minnesota Vikings after seven games in the 2024 season after Minnesota lost Christian Darrisaw to an injury.
Robinson has started 102 of his 104 career games, the only two non-starts being Weeks 2 and 3 this season. Almost all have been at left tackle, including 91 with the Jaguars.
“A guy who has experience,” right guard Wyatt Teller said on a Zoom call Sept. 29, “who’s going to help us, learning the plays and all the jargon and stuff like that, again, having experience, there’s only so many — horrible saying — but there’s only so many ways you can skin a cat. Like duo’s, duo, zone’s zone. Techniques might change a little bit and jargon might change, but for the most part, it’s pretty much the same. So having a guy who has experience and able to step in and help us is paramount.”
The Browns have desperately needed tackle help this season because of both injuries and ineffective play. Left tackle Dawand Jones went on injured reserve Sept. 24 after sustaining a torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee and a hamstring avulsion four plays into a Week 3 win over the Green Bay Packers.
Right tackle Jack Conklin has played just one offensive possession this season. He left the opener against the Cincinnati Bengals after being poked in the eye, then missed the last three games because of an elbow injury suffered in practice in advance of a Week 2 game at the Baltimore Ravens.
The injuries have forced the Browns to play four different starting offensive line combinations over the first four games. A fifth one is very likely in Week 5 when they play against the Vikings in London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“I’d say let’s get him in the building first before I can answer that,” Stefanski said. “Obviously he’s a guy that’s played a lot of football. But until we get him up here, until we spend some time with him, I don’t think it’s fair to say.”
Conklin has been replaced in the lineup by veteran Cornelius Lucas, who has allowed 28 total pressures and two sacks according to Pro Football Focus. KT Leveston, a developmental tackle the Browns acquired in August from the Rams, has replaced Jones in the lineup.
If Conklin, who has been a limited practice participant while dealing with the elbow injury, can return to the field, even as soon as Week 5, adding Robinson to the left tackle spot could provide a level of veteran stability. Stefanski wouldn’t speak to any correlation between the Robinson acquisition and Conklin’s availability.
“Yeah, for me it’s really the focus is on bringing Cam in here,” Stefanski said. “Jack continues to get better every single day.”
