Muncie-to-Bloomington ambulance trip leads to sex charges against EMT

MUNCIE, IN — An EMT for an Indianapolis-based ambulance service is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old patient while she was being taken from IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital to a Bloomington medical facility.

Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman’s office on Wednesday, May 27, charged 37-year-old Ronald D. Elliott Jr. with sexual misconduct with a minor, child seduction, vicarious sexual gratification, child solicitation and inappropriate communication with a child.

Elliott — of Dunreith in southern Henry County — was arrested after a Thursday traffic stop, according to Indiana State Police. He was being held without bond in the Delaware County Jail.

The charges against him include two Level 4 felonies, each carrying up to 12 years in prison, and two Level 5 felonies, with maximum six-year sentences.

State police said Thursday’s arrest followed a three-month investigation.

Court documents allege the crimes took place in mid-February, when the juvenile was being transported in an ambulance, belonging to Quest Ambulance Service, to Bloomington.

According to an affidavit, Elliott — before having sex with the 14-year-old girl in the ambulance — showed her photos on his cell phone of his genitalia, showed her videos of the EMT having sex with a woman, and fondled the juvenile.

The Dunreith man is also accused of giving the girl a nicotine vape.

State police said Elliott also used the juvenile’s Instagram account to communicate with her 13-year-old friend and made sexually suggestive comments to that girl.

Interviewed by state police on March 26, Elliott reportedly admitted giving the 14-year-old the vape and allowing her to use his cell phone, but he denied any sexual activity took place.

State police said Rushville and Muncie police, Rush County and Henry County sheriff’s deputies and the Henry County probation office assisted in the investigation.

According to court records, the Dunreith man has been convicted of residential entry, in Fayette County in 2023.
