Notre Dame has a few questions heading into the season, and one of them has to do with the offensive skill positions.
There is no questioning the talent that the Irish have at running back and wide receiver, its that most of it doesn’t have much experience. Wide receiver Jordan Faison returns, which will be a huge help, but Jaden Greathouse (injuries), Quincy Porter (experience), Mylan Graham (experience), Devin Fitzgerald (true freshman) and Cam Williams (experience) all have their own warts.
On Thursday, head coach Marcus Freeman went on ESPN’s SportCenter and discussed what the Notre Dame offense will look like this fall. “We’re going to be a team that still prides ourselves in running the football. I think being able to run the football creates an opening in the pass game.”
He’d go on to talk about running back Aneyas Williams, but reiterated that “it all starts with the big guys up front.” It very much seems like Freeman is confident that whoever is running the ball should have success due to the Notre Dame offensive line.
You could say the same thing about the passing game, if quarterback CJ Carr gets time, he’s going to find an open receiver. Add that all up, it’s pretty safe to say that you should see Notre Dame be a very balanced offense.
