The Evansville area is going to get a soaking, daylong rain on Tuesday − something the region desperately needs.
Here’s what the National Weather Service is saying about the forecast.
Rain all day on Tuesday
Hourly rain chances top 80 percent starting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, and stay there until after 1 a.m. on Wednesday. It won’t be a deluge, but instead a slow soaker.
The National Weather Service expects anywhere from 1.5 to 2 inches through midday Wednesday.
Severe weather chances low
While some of the rain that comes through on Tuesday will be from thunderstorms, forecasters aren’t expecting an outbreak of severe weather in the Evansville area.
The best chances for severe weather remain well off to the southwest of the Tri-State, in southeastern Missouri and northern Arkansas.
Evansville area needs rain
The rain will be a welcome relief for farmers and people who are seeing lawns and gardens dealing with dry conditions.
The Evansville area is an “abnormally dry” zone in the latest Drought Monitor map.
It gets worse when you head south. Parts of Western Kentucky range from “moderate drought” (areas near the Ohio River) to “extreme drought” (near the Land Between the Lakes and the Kentucky-Tennessee border).
While one rain event won’t reverse those trends, it’ll at least help with planting conditions.
