Indianapolis homicide tracker 2025

IndyStar is tracking homicides to better understand violence in the city. This list is preliminary and updated as regularly as possible. This information is compiled using data from Indianapolis police, the coroner, court records and interviews with family and friends of those killed. Anyone with information that could help a homicide investigation is asked to call the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477 to remain anonymous.

Woman dies days after being found shot on North Rural Street following homicide investigation in another case

Dec. 30: While responding to a separate shooting homicide on Dec. 26 at an apartment complex in the 500 block of North Rural Street, a car drove up to police with a man and woman injured inside just after 3 p.m. The woman was shot and taken to a hospital in critical condition. The man had a laceration on his face that police said was not a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition. The woman was later pronounced dead on Dec. 30.

Police said the incident likely occurred at the 2300 block of Coyner Avenue, and have not announced any suspects.

Shane Alexander Tapscott, 50, found unresponsive near train tracks, later confirmed shot at homeless encampment

Dec. 29: Police were called about a death investigation in the 3100 block of Moore Avenue at 5:49 p.m. Officers found Shane Alexander Tapscott, 50, unresponsive near the train tracks. He was pronounced dead at the scene. During an initial investigation, detectives didn’t suspect foul play or see obvious signs of trauma, but an autopsy performed by the Marion County Coroner’s Office concluded that he was shot near a homeless encampment.

No suspects were immediately announced.

Jeri Mae Mains, 44, dies in shooting on Meadow Bend Lane

Dec. 28: Police were called about a person shot at a house in the 3100 block of Meadow Bend Lane just before 2:30 p.m. Officers found Jeri Mae Mains, 44, shot and in critical condition. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Several witnesses provided police with a description of a potential suspect. Police located the person near the scene and later arrested them in connection with the shooting. Investigators believe the shooting happened because of a disturbance with family members.

Michael Keith Green, 45, found shot on North Rural Street, two other people found shot in separate shooting

Dec. 26: Police witnessed a fight between two men near an apartment complex in the 500 block of North Rural Street at 2 a.m. Officers saw an armed man flee in his vehicle. Officers chased after and detained him on I-70 near the Emerson Avenue exit. He was arrested in connection with the shooting of Michael Keith Green, 45, who was found lying in the street, shot. Green was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but later pronounced dead.

As police were investigating the shooting, a man and woman drove up to officers in a vehicle, injured.

The man was taken to a hospital in stable condition with a laceration on his face. The woman was shot and taken to a hospital in critical condition. The shooting is believed to have happened in the 2300 block of Coyner Avenue.

Logan Allen Newman, 21, found shot inside a car on Belle Union Drive

Dec. 23: Police were called to a report of a person shot at the 8700 block of Blooming Grove Drive just after noon. While officers were en route to the scene, the call was changed to include a vehicle crash. Officers found a vehicle that had crashed through a nearby park’s tennis court. Officers found Logan Allen Newman, 21, shot inside, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers learned that a potentially armed suspect ran away. Police found the man about four blocks away from the scene in the 8600 block of Belle Union Place, and he was taken into custody.

Ashley Yunya Yarrell, 36, found shot in an apartment on South Village Way

Dec. 22: Police were called about a disturbance at an apartment complex in the 7500 block of South Village Way at 1:55 a.m. Officers found Ashley Yunya Yarrell, 36, shot, and she was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition before later being pronounced dead.

Police announced they were looking for a 13-year-old boy who was last seen at the apartment complex a day before. He was later found by the Missing Persons Division.

Two days later, police received several tips that led them to arrest a man in connection with the shooting of Yarrell. Officers found the man sitting in a vehicle in the 5400 block of Georgetown Road. After a vehicle pursuit, police took the man into custody.

Keymanee Rippy, 23, found shot inside home on Bonn Drive

Dec. 20: Police were called about a person shot at a home in the 3900 block of Bonn Drive. Officers found Keymanee Rippy, 23, shot inside a home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.  

Police did not immediately announce any suspects.

Corey L. Howell, 37, found dead in vehicle on at apartment complex on Gateway Court

Dec. 18: Police were called about a person shot at an apartment complex in the 3900 block of Gateway Court at 7:55 p.m. Officers found Corey L. Howell, 37, shot inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police did not immediately announce any suspects.

John Lloyd Pedigo, 81, killed at a home on Catherwood Avenue

Dec. 11: Police were called to do a welfare check at a home in the 2100 block of Catherwood Avenue at 3:28 p.m. Officers found John Lloyd Pedigo, 81, and a woman inside the house with traumatic injuries. Pedigo was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital in serious, but stable, condition.

Police identified a man as a suspect and with the help of Indiana State Police and Department of Natural Resources personnel, he was taken into custody in Greene County.

Desmond Lee Perry Sr., 55, found shot at a gas station on West 38th Street

Dec. 6: Police were called about a person shot at a gas station at 37 West 38th Street at 7:48 p.m. Officers found Desmond Lee Perry Sr., 55, shot inside. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital, where he was taken in critical condition.

Police did not announce any immediate suspects.

Brittany Nicole Kavanaugh, 29, found shot on East Troy Avenue

Dec. 6: Police were called about a person shot at a home in the 200 block of East Troy Avenue at 6:46 a.m. Officers found Brittany Nicole Kavanaugh, 29, shot, and she was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police did not announce any immediate suspects.

Lloyd Rafiel Moncrief, 52, found shot on East 10th Street

Dec. 6: Police were called about a person shot in the 3100 block of East 10th Street at 12:55 a.m. Officers found Lloyd Rafiel Moncrief, 52, shot, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

An arrest was made in this case.

Terri Lee Heady, 68, found shot dead inside Irvington clothing store

Dec. 4: Police were called about a person shot at Josephine’s in Irvington, a boutique clothing store at 5620 E. Washington St. Officers found Terri Lee Heady, 68, had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Less than a block away, officers found an armed man believed to have fled from Josephine’s. Terry E. Morgan, 58, entered into a standoff with officers for several minutes before turning the gun on himself. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, before later being pronounced dead.

Bradly Eliud Toro Torres, 23, found shot dead on Burkart Road

Dec. 4: Police were called about a person shot at an apartment complex in the 4200 block of Burkart Road at 12:51 a.m. Officers found Bradly Eliud Toro Torres, 23, lying on the road, shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not announced suspects.

Corkney Morgan Jr., 36 and Meghan Wiekerson, 36, found shot inside house fire in Thanksgiving shooting

Nov. 27: Police were called to assist Indianapolis Fire at a home in the 3700 block of North Audubon Road after being notified that a person had been shot at 10:17 a.m. Firefighters were originally there after a caller said the home was filled with smoke and children were inside.

Officers found Meghan Wiekerson, 36, shot, and she was taken to an area hospital in critical condition before later being pronounced dead. Corkney Morgan Jr., 36, was also found shot, but pronounced dead at the scene. Their 3-year-old non-verbal son and 1-year-old daughter were recovered from the home unharmed.

An IMPD homicide detective was in communication with the Whitestown Police Department after a pursuit that happened earlier in the day ended in Tippecanoe County and may have a possible connection with the shooting.

Philip John Brant, 60, found shot in the yard of home on Kildare Avenue

Nov. 26: Police were called about a person shot at a home in the 2000 block of Kildare Avenue at 1:37 p.m. and found a man lying in a yard shot. Philip John Brant, 60, was taken to a hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. Police detained two people of interest, who were later released pending further investigation.

The case remains unsolved.

Amanda Sheree Jones, 26, shot inside an apartment on Turtle Creek North Drive

Nov. 25: Police were called about a person shot in an apartment complex in the 700 block of Turtle Creek North Drive at about 11:55 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Amanda Sheree Jones, 26, shot inside an apartment. She was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. A 2-year-old was also found unharmed inside. Police detained two people of interest, but have not announced any suspects in connection to the shooting.

The case remains unsolved.

Stephen Chipman Jr., 31, found shot dead in triple shooting on Forest Manor Avenue

Nov 23: Police were called about a person shot at a home in the 3100 block of Forest Manor Avenue at about 4:10 a.m. Officers found two men shot. One of the men, Stephen Chipman Jr., 31, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other person was taken to a hospital and reported to be in critical condition.

At 4:16 a.m., police were called about a person shot right around the corner in the 3000 block of North Gladstone Avenue. Officers found another man shot, and he was reported to be in stable condition. Officers believe the person found was related to the shooting at Forest Manor.

The case remains unsolved.

Brandon Joshua Easley, 18, found shot at a gas station on East Michigan Street

Nov 23: Police were called about a person shot at a gas station in the 3800 block of East Michigan Street around 1:54 a.m. Officers found Brandon Joshua Easley, 18, shot in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The case remains unsolved.

Jeffrey Finkle, 64, found shot inside home after ‘call for help’ on James Run Way

Nov. 22: Police responded to a “call for help” from a home on the 1700 block of James Run Way at 3:55 a.m. Officers found a man shot, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers investigating the shooting connected a vandalism and domestic violence suspect to case and sought to question Robert Bido, 37. SWAT tracked Bido to Franklin and when they attempted to serve a warrant on unrelated charged gunfire broke out. Bido was fatally shot by police.  

The case remains unsolved.

Angel Guadalupe Rosales Alvarado, 1, dies after being found ‘severely malnourished’

Nov. 17: At 10:12 a.m., Angel Guadalupe Rosales Alvarado’s parents brought him into Eskenazi Hospital after they “discovered Angel was cold to the touch and observed him not breathing normally,” court records state. The child abuse unit was called to the hospital and found that the 1-year-old boy was severely malnourished and had visible injuries across his body. Based on doctor and family interviews, investigators labeled the case a homicide.

The baby’s parents, Wendy Alvarado, 35, and Dunio Rosales-Duarte, 31, were charged days later with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, which is a Level 1 felony.

Jason Edward Griffin, 44, dies after double shooting at Union Street home

Nov. 15: Police were called about a person shot in the 1700 block of Union Street just before 1 p.m. Officers found a man and a woman shot. The woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition. The man, Jason Edward Griffin, 44, was taken to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive.

Police arrested a 64-year-old man in connection with the shootings.

Carl Edward Stevenson IV, 27, dies in shooting on Fletcher Avenue

Nov. 11: Police were called about a person shot at a home in the 3700 block of Fletcher Avenue at 12:06 p.m. Officers found Carl Edward Stevenson IV, 27, shot, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead.

An arrest was made in the case.

Kenneth Anthony Murff Jr., 23, dies in shooting on North Oxford Street

Nov. 11: Police were called about a person shot in the 3500 block of North Oxford Street at 5:18 a.m. Officers found Kenneth Anthony Murff Jr., 23, shot. He was pronounced dead at the hospital after being taken in stable condition.

The case remains unsolved.

Bryce David Bullard, 28, found shot at home on South Gale Street

Nov. 11: Police were called about a person shot in the 1000 block of South Gale Street just before 4 a.m. Officers found Bryce David Bullard, 28, shot, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe the shooting started as a dispute between family members.

The case remains unsolved.

Stephen Jarone Coach Jr., 35, found shot at home on North Pennsylvania Street

Nov. 8: Police were called about a person shot at a home in the 3800 block of North Pennsylvania Street at 7:57 p.m. Officers found Stephen Jarone Coach Jr., 35, shot. He was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police later detained two people of interest, who were released pending further investigation.

The case remains unsolved.

Rheyanna A. Soriano, 24, shot after fight inside vehicle on East 10th Street

Nov. 6: Police were called about a car crash in the 4000 block of East 10th Street at 10:52 p.m. Officers found Rheyanna A. Soriano, 24, shot at the scene, and she was taken to a hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead. Police believe there was a fight inside a vehicle before the shooting. A man was detained at the scene and later released as the investigation continues.

Detectives have marked the case “exceptionally cleared,” a term used when a case will not lead to an arrest, such as self-defense or the suspect is deceased.

Yonah Ben Jeffers-Telfair, 17, and Jontavion T. Davis, 17, die after double shooting on Central Avenue

Nov. 2: Police were called about a person shot in the 3800 block of Central Avenue at 3:19 p.m. near its intersection with 38th Street. Officers found two teen boys shot; one inside a car and another outside of a vehicle. They were both taken to a hospital in critical condition. Yonah Ben Jeffers-Telfair, 17, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Jontavion T. Davis, 17, died a few days later on Nov. 6, 2025.

Both deaths are listed as “exceptionally cleared,” a term used when a case will not lead to an arrest, such as self-defense or the suspect is deceased.

John Bouvier Green Jr., 37, killed in stabbing at downtown gas station on Kentucky Avenue

Oct. 29: Police were called about a stabbing at a gas station in the 400 block of Kentucky Avenue at 10:21 p.m. Officers found two men stabbed, and they were taken to a hospital. One man was in stable condition, while the other one was in critical condition, before being pronounced dead. The deceased was identified as John Bouvier Green Jr., 37. Police believe a fight began inside the store and spilled into the parking lot, and preliminary evidence suggests it may be a self-defense case.

Christopher J. Segovia, 19, dies in shooting on Lafayette Road

Oct. 28: Police were called about a person shot on Oct. 19 in the 3500 block of Lafayette Road at 3:05 a.m. Officers found Christopher J. Segovia, 19, shot. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. Officers also found a man and woman with injuries consistent with trauma. The man was taken to a hospital in stable condition, and the woman was in critical condition. Segovia was later pronounced dead in the hospital on Oct. 28. A person of interest was detained on scene and later released after consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

The case remains unsolved.

Ashley Renea Sanders, 26, found shot in a home on West 34th Street

Oct. 28: Police were called about a person shot in the 1400 block of West 34th Street just before midnight. Officers found Ashley Renea Sanders, 26, shot inside a home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was later found and arrested in the case.

Brian Eugene Wilburn, 51, dies after being stabbed on Englewood Drive

Oct. 28: Police were called about a person stabbed at a house in the 1600 block of Englewood Drive just before 11 a.m. Officers found Brian Eugene Wilburn, 51, inside with stab wounds. He was pronounced dead after being taken Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Police later detained a family member of Wilburn after learning that a disturbance had happened at the home. The family member cut his hand and was taken to the hospital in stable condition. They were later released from police custody after being detained.

The case remains unsolved.

Christapher Mays, 24, found shot at a duplex home on North Illinois Street

Oct. 26: Police were called about a person shot at a duplex in the 3600 block of North Illinois Street just after 4 a.m. Officers found Christapher Mays, 24, shot inside a home, and he was taken to Methodist Hospital in critical condition before later being pronounced dead.

The case remains unsolved.

Zachary Lillard, 34, found dead in an alley on East Tabor Street, one woman found injured

Oct. 21: Police were called about a person shot in the 1600 block of East Tabor Street at about 5:45 a.m. near the intersection of East Raymond Street and Draper Street. When officers arrived, they found a woman shot near East Raymond and Shelby Street. The woman then directed police to Zachary Lillard, 34, who had been shot in an alleyway near East Tabor Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The case remains unsolved.

Kavon L. McClung, 21, shot at Three Fountains Cooperative apartment complex on Ponza Court

Oct 19: Police were called about a person shot at the Three Fountains Cooperative apartment complex in the 4200 block of Ponza Court just before 1:45 p.m. Officers found Kavon L. McClung, 21, shot inside an apartment and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have made an arrest in the case.

Karissa Ann Ramsey, 36, found dead inside of a hotel on Post Drive

Oct. 18:  Police were called about a death investigation at hotel in the 2300 block of Post Drive at 10:23 a.m. In a room on the third floor, officers found Karissa Ann Ramsey, 36, unresponsive, and she was later pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy by the Marion County Coroner’s Office on Oct. 20 ruled her death a homicide and said she was killed due to asphyxiation.

The case remains unsolved.

Kentrell Settles, 21, died in a road rage shooting in a neighborhood on Donald Avenue

Oct. 17: Police were called about a person shot in the 3600 block of Donald Avenue near the intersection of West 38th Street and Georgetown Road just before 2 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Kentrell Settles, 21, shot who was sitting in the driver’s side of a car. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, before being pronounced dead.

Investigators learned that Settles had honked his horn at another vehicle near the intersection as traffic began to form. Court documents state a woman who was driving the other vehicle fired at least one shot at the man before fleeing. Police found her a few hours after the shooting.

They later announced her arrest.

Clifford Nathaniel Hudson, 40, shot at the intersection of North Tibbs Avenue and West 14th Street

Oct 14: Police were called about a person shot in the 1400 block of North Tibbs Avenue near the intersection of North Tibbs and West 14th Street just before 4 p.m. on Oct. 12. When officers arrived, they found Clifford Nathaniel Hudson, 40, with gunshot wounds in critical condition. He was taken to a hospital, but died two days later.

The case remains unsolved.

Torrey Lamar Pargo, 38, shot at home on Dickson Road near Arlington Middle School

Oct. 12: Police were called about shots being fired in the 6100 block of Dickson Road near Arlington Middle School at about 5:15 p.m. While en route, police were informed that a person had been shot. Officers found Torrey Lamar Pargo, 38, shot inside a nearby home. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, before being pronounced dead. Officers detained one person at the scene, but the investigation remains ongoing.

The case remains unsolved.

Tervon Omar Lee Townsend, 22, shot at gas station on Kentucky Avenue

Oct. 11: Police were called about shots being fired at a gas station in the 4700 block of Kentucky Avenue at 6:50 p.m. An officer was driving past and saw a person down in the parking lot. Around the same time, the call was updated to a report of a person shot after multiple 911 calls were made. Officers found Tervon Omar Lee Townsend, 22, shot in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital in critical condition. Multiple people were detained and later released pending further investigation.

The case remains unsolved.

William E. Deaton II, 38, found shot outside home on Austral Drive

Sept. 30: Police were called about a person shot outside near a home in the 5200 block of Austral Drive at 4 p.m. Officers found William E. Deaton II, 38, shot, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives later learned that the shooting stemmed from an argument between an escort and a 17-year-old boy. The teen pointed a gun at the woman, causing her to scream. Court documents state Deaton, who had driven the escort who planned to meet up with the teen, went to help her when he heard her screaming on the phone call, but was shot.

The 17-year-old was arrested on Oct. 20 and charged as an adult.

Victor A. Lopez, 26, dies in double shooting on North Concord Street

Sept. 30: Police were called about a person shot at a home in the 1300 block of North Concord Street at 1:27 p.m. Officers found Victor A. Lopez, 26, shot in a backyard. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A short time later, a person walked into Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition. It’s believed they were shot on North Concord Street.

The case remains unsolved.

Jose Manuel Castellanos-Morales, 22, Antonio Vazquez Molina, 29, and Vianey Hernandez, 33, shot in triple shooting on Guion Road

Sept. 29: Police were called about a person shot in the 4500 block of Guion Road shortly before midnight. When officers arrived, they found three people shot. One person was found outside on the road, and two others were found in a vehicle. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, and one person was taken to a hospital in critical condition before later being pronounced dead.

The Marion County Coroner identified the deceased as Jose Manuel Castellanos-Morales, 22, and Antonio Vazquez Molina, 29, and Vianey Hernandez.

The case remains unsolved.

Kentaevon Shavon Patterson, 20, shot at a gas station on Southeastern Avenue

Sept. 28: Police were called about a person shot at a gas station in the 5000 block of Southeastern Avenue at 11:31 a.m. When officers arrived, they could not find anyone. Later in the day, police were called about a person who arrived at Community East Hospital with gunshot injuries. Officers determined Kentaevon Shavon Patterson, 20, was the person fatally shot on Southeastern Avenue. Police believe the shooter and Patterson were familiar with each other.

The case remains unsolved.

LaNya Amika Anderson, 19, shot at Amber Woods Apartments on John Jay Drive

Sept. 26: Police were called about a person shot in the 10100 block of John Jay Drive about 3:15 a.m. LaNya Amika Anderson, 19, was found shot at the Amber Woods Apartment complex. She was pronounced dead after being taken to Eskenazi Hospital.

Police have announced the arrest of her 20-year-old boyfriend.

Dante Lynn Hogans, 29, and Rodney Allen Taylor, 31, found dead after mass shooting on Shore Terrace

Sept. 21: Police were called about a person shot in the 6800 block of Shore Terrace just after 2 a.m. Officers found five people shot at the scene. Three were taken to hospitals in unknown conditions. Dante Lynn Hogans, 29, and Rodney Allen Taylor, 31, were found dead at the scene. An additional injured person arrived at a hospital, and another walked into a fire station. Both were believed to have been shot on Shore Terrace.

Police have listed Taylor’s killing as solved.

Hogans’ homicide is listed as “exceptionally cleared,” a term used when a case will not lead to an arrest, such as self-defense or the suspect is deceased.

Bidan Mburu, 22, found shot at Greenwood apartments on Dover Drive

Sept. 16: Greenwood Police were called about shots fired at the Westminster Apartments in the 800 block of Dover Drive at 10:15 p.m. Greenwood officers found Bidan Mburu, 22, shot, and he was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to investigators, a suspect in the shooting was involved in an altercation with another individual. During that altercation, the suspect fired and shot at the other person, but missed and hit Mburu who was uninvolved at the time.

The 21-year-old suspect was arrested at a hotel on the east side of Indianapolis.

Breyner Perez-Matute, 20, fatally stabbed. Girlfriend arrested

Sept. 13: Police were called to Community East Hospital about a person with traumatic injuries just before 7 a.m. Breyner Perez Matute, 20, was initially reported to be in critical condition but later pronounced dead. An investigation revealed that he was stabbed in the 300 block of North Shortridge Road.

Police arrested his girlfriend in the case.

Gregory Joshua Newsome Jr., 34, found shot outside a home on Eastridge Drive

Sept. 12: Police were called about a person shot at a home in the 6200 block of Eastridge Drive at 1:14 a.m. Officers found Gregory Joshua Newsome Jr., 34, shot outside a home. He died after being taken to the hospital in critical condition.

On May 3, 2026, a 20-year-old man was arrested for his alleged involvement in the shooting death.

Fritz Bernier, 57, beaten on East Market Street downtown dies days later

Sept. 11: Police were called about a fight with a weapon near the Historic Cole Motor Car Co – North Building in the 700 block of E Market Street on Sept. 8 at 5:20 p.m. Officers found Fritz Bernier, 57, suffering from trauma. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition while police arrested an alleged suspect. Bernier died three days later in the hospital.

Police have announced an arrest in this case.

Curtis Harris, 58, found shot inside apartment at The Grove on Harcourt complex

Sept. 10: Police were called about a person shot at The Grove on Harcourt apartment complex in the 8000 block of Dowitch Lane at 12:17 p.m. Curtis Harris, 58, was found shot inside an apartment, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was arrested in the case on Sept. 23.

Malachi Romi Baumgartner, 25, dies in Lawrence police action shooting

Sept. 10: The Lawrence Police Department responded to a call about a disturbance at a group home in the 7300 bock of Red Rock Road. Once inside the home, police encountered Malachi Romi Baumgartner, 25, wielding a knife, according to a department spokesperson. Marissa Michelle Brazzell, 29, found with internal trauma in Rockville Road home

Sept. 9: Police were called to a home in the 4900 block of Rockville Road just before 7:30 p.m. on a report of a death. Marissa Michelle Brazzell, 29, was found deceased at the scene, and while no visible injuries were seen, homicide detectives began investigating. On Sept. 10, an examination by the Marion County Coroner’s Office confirmed Brazzell had suffered internal trauma and her death was classified as a homicide.

Lacoreion Maliek McVay, 25, dies two months after shooting on East New York Street

Sept. 7: Police were called about a person shot in the 3800 block of East New York Street at 12:35 a.m. on July 6. Officers found a Lacoreion Maliek McVay, 25, shot near a gas station. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. On Sept. 7, McVay was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Ronnie Elijah Ameen, 24, found shot in a car on East 37th Place

Sept. 4: Police were called about a personal injury crash outside a home in the 9500 block of East 37th Place just before 7 p.m. A car had struck a central air unit and a tree next to the home. Officers found Ronnie Elijah Ameen, 24, who sustained injuries consistent with trauma. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition, but later pronounced dead.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office said his cause of death was a gunshot wound.

Police arrested his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend for the killing after court documents revealed their toxic relationship.

Isaac Duncan, 25, shot dead outside of Canal Gardens Apartments

Sept. 2: Police were called about a person shot outside of Canal Gardens Apartments at 1249 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. just before 10 p.m. Officers found Isaac Duncan, 25, who had been shot in his car. Duncan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case remains unsolved.

Jaden Spalding, 21, shot in murder-suicide at College Courts of Nora apartment complex

Aug. 25: Police were called about a death investigation at the College Courts of Nora apartment complex in the 9200 block of Vassar Lane at 8:15 p.m. Officers found Jaden Spalding, 21, and a man shot inside an apartment, with one firearm recovered as evidence. They both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe the case to be a murder-suicide.

Anthony Hernandez-Lopez, 18, found shot outside a home on Graceland Avenue

Aug. 23: Police were called about shots fired at a home in the 3300 block of Graceland Avenue just before 2 a.m. Officers found Anthony Hernandez-Lopez, 18, shot outside and rendered aid until he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead. At the same time, another man walked into Eskenazi Hospital shot, and was listed in stable condition, where he was awake and breathing. That man was also struck in the 3300 block of Graceland Avenue. At least one person was detained in the shooting, but no arrests have been made.

Tyson Reach, 19, dies weeks after officer-involved shooting

Aug. 22: Tyrson Reach, 19, was injured in a shootout with an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer and died three weeks after he was initially shot. Reach was shot on July 29 while being pulled over in a stolen car with three other people. Police said he shot Officer Alejandro Renteria, who returned fire.

The case remains unsolved.

La’Renzo Shamar Murray, 22, dies in UPS distribution facility shooting

Aug. 19: Police were called about a shooting at the UPS distribution facility in the 8400 block of West 81st Street at 10 p.m. UPS employee La’Renzo Shamar Murray, 22, was found shot and taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.

An arrest was made in the case on Sept. 21.

Quiana Marie Johnson, 43, killed in East 10th Street shooting

Aug. 19: Police were called to a “medical run” in the 3000 block of East 10th Street at about 9:15 p.m. Arriving officers heard a gunshot coming from inside a home and promptly arrested a man who came outside. Quiana Marie McBride (Johnson), 43, was found shot inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was arrested for the killing.

Xavieon Whitlow, 17, found shot at The Grounds apartment complex on Central Avenue

Aug. 17: Police were called about a person shot at The Grounds apartment complex in the 2100 block of Central Avenue at 2:43 a.m. Officers found Xavieon Whitlow, 17, shot inside an apartment, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe the shooting happened at a party in a short-term rental unit, but no witnesses were located.

The case remains unsolved.

Paul Vincent Thompson III, 25, shot in Meadowlark Drive neighborhood

Aug. 15: Police were called about a person down in the 8400 block of Meadowlark Drive at 1:36 a.m. Officers found Paul Vincent Thompson III, 25, shot at the edge of the street, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives found shell casings on the scene and believe a suspect or suspects left the scene in a speeding car based on nearby witnesses who heard the car take off.

The case remains unsolved.

Robbie Glen Vidito, 56, struck and killed by vehicle at southwest side intersection after disturbance

Aug. 14: Police were called about a vehicle crash at the intersection of Denison Street and West Troy Avenue at 11:09 a.m. Officers found Robbie Glen Vidito, 56, who had been hit by a car. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Vidito was later pronounced dead.

The car remained at the scene, but it’s believed the driver fled on foot. Investigators believe a disturbance happened before the man was struck, and preliminary information suggests that the killing was an intentional act.

On Aug. 15, police announced an arrest was made in the case.

Teddy Verl Chapple, 32, found shot after family disturbance at home on Oak Avenue

Aug. 10: Police were called about a person shot at a home in the 5900 block of Oak Avenue at 8:32 p.m. Officers found Teddy Verl Chapple, 32, shot outside the house. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition before being pronounced dead. Police at the scene said the shooting stemmed from a family disturbance, and at least one person was in custody.

That person was later released upon consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

The case remains unsolved.

Jesus H. Estrada, 39, found stabbed in neighborhood on North State Street

Aug. 10: Police were called about a person stabbed in the 200 block of North State Avenue at 8:33 p.m. Officers found Jesus H. Estrada, 39, with injuries consistent with trauma outside a home, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.

The case remains unsolved.

Wilson Astreide, 24, found shot on North Temple Avenue

Aug. 10: On April 9, 2025, at 7:38 p.m., police were called about a person shot in the 300 block of North Temple Avenue. Officers found Wilson Astreide, 24, shot, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition before later being pronounced dead.

Within a month of the shooting, police arrested two teens for their suspected involvement in the shooting.

Astreide died on Aug. 24, 2025, but the Marion County Coroner’s Office had his manner of death “pending.”

On Oct. 31, 2025, his death was officially ruled a homicide.

Karon Clay, 33, and Karter Clay, 3, found dead during welfare check in Greenwood

Aug. 5: Greenwood Police were called about a welfare check at a home in the 600 block of Greenway Street just after 5:30 p.m. Officers who responded to the scene found Karon Clay, 33, and her 3-year-old son, Karter Clay, dead inside. Authorities initially described the case as a death investigation but clarified on Aug. 6 that the deaths are being investigated as homicides. The cause of death has not been released.

The Johnson County Coroner said Karon Clay was in her third trimester of pregnancy at the time of her death.

Scott Anthony Foor Jr., 19, shot after disturbance at Family Dollar on Michigan Road

Aug. 2: Police were called about a person shot at the Family Dollar in the 6000 block of Michigan Road at 5:38 p.m. Officers found Scott Anthony Foor Jr., 19, shot outside the front entrance of the store. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe a disturbance happened inside the store between multiple people before the shooting.

Other people, including children, were inside the store during the shooting.

Antonio Lamont Carney, 50, found shot at a home on West 29th Street

July 25: Police were called about a person shot in the 800 block of West 29th Street just before 10 p.m. Officers found Antonio Lamont Carney, 50, shot at home. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

The case remains unsolved.

Edier Alexander Hernandez Rivera, 20, found shot inside a vehicle after car crash on Griffin Road

July 25: Police were called about a car crash in the 400 block of Griffin Road just after 12:45 a.m. Officers found Edier Alexander Hernandez Rivera, 20, shot inside a vehicle in the area. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later pronounced dead.

On Sept. 16, IMPD announced the arrest of a 16-year-old boy who was served a warrant in Carmel.

Walter McNary, 76, accused of killing his wife shot by IMPD officer after a pursuit

July 24: Police were looking for Walter McNary, 76, following an earlier shooting when they found him driving in the 3300 block of Boulevard Place at 7:45 a.m. At least three times during the pursuit, police said McNary stopped his car and fired “several” shots at officers with a rifle.

He was eventually hit by return fire and taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.

Nola B. McNary, 60, shot by her husband at a home on North Ritter Avenue

July 24: Police were called about a person shot at a home in the 4800 block of North Ritter Avenue at 7:20 a.m. Officers found Nola B. McNary, 60, shot, and she was taken to a hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead. They learned of a suspect, who police said was her husband, who fled in a car, and officers began a pursuit.

Officers said Walter McNary shot at police while driving, they returned fire, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead.

Sabrina Nicole Harbert, 42, found shot outside of Jack’s Liquor Store on Georgetown Road

July 19: Police were called about a person shot outside of Jack’s Liquor Store at 5524 Georgetown Road at 2:51 a.m. Officers found Sabrina Nicole Harbert, 42, shot outside the business on a sidewalk. She was taken to a hospital by Pike Township medics in critical condition, but later was pronounced dead.

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with this killing.

Vince Gruber, 25, found with trauma in homeless encampment near South Tibbs Avenue

July 17: Police were called about a death investigation at a homeless encampment near the 700 block of South Tibbs Avenue at 4:45 p.m. Officers found Vince Gruber, 25, with traumatic injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office said his cause of death was from multiple gunshots.

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with this killing.

Jereme Curtis Dillingham, 28, found shot at Mucky Duck Pub parking lot

July 17: Police were called about a person shot at the Mucky Duck Pub in the 4400 block of Southport Crossings Drive at 1:35 a.m. Officers found Jereme Curtis Dillingham, 28, in the parking lot shot. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but later pronounced dead.

Later that same morning, officers found a person of interest in the 4100 block of East Naomi Street and they were arrested.

Kevin Williams, 38, found shot in a car outside a home on Wellington Avenue

July 15: Police were called about a person shot in the 3500 block of Wellington Avenue at 3:58 p.m. Officers found Kevin Williams, 38, shot inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dawn E. Adams, 69, found stabbed outside a home on North Alton Avenue

July 14: Police were called about a person down in the 500 block of North Alton Avenue at 9:50 p.m. Officers found Dawn E. Adams, 69, outside a home with injuries consistent with trauma. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

An arrest was made in her stabbing.

Simeon Jones, 44, found shot in double shooting at home on North Parker Avenue

July 13: Police were called about shots being fired in the 500 block of North Parker Avenue at 6:49 a.m. Officers found Simeon Jones, 44, and a woman shot inside a shed at the rear of a home’s property, and they were both taken to a hospital in critical condition. Hours later, Jones was pronounced dead.

Wayland Coe, 24 and Isreal Offett, 12, found shot a car in double shooting near business on West 38th Street

July 12: Police were called about a person shot near a discount store in the 5100 block of West 38th Street at 3:55 a.m. Officers found Wayland Coe, 24, and Isreal Offett, 12, shot. Both were taken to a hospital in critical condition, but later pronounced dead.

Shawnnetta Small, 44, found stabbed inside a home on North Downey Avenue

July 11: Police were called to a home on the report of a disturbance with a weapon in the 1500 block of North Downey Avenue at 8:04 p.m. Officers found Shawnnetta Small, 44, stabbed in a basement. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A person of interest was detained at the scene and later arrested for the killing.

Rodney Ward Jr., 16, found shot at gas station parking lot on North Mitthoefer Road

July 11: Police responded to a report of a person shot at a gas station in the 2900 block of North Mitthoeffer Road at 6:09 p.m. Officers found Rodney Ward, 16, shot on the ground in the parking lot. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but later pronounced dead.

An arrest was made in this case in November 2025.

Arturo Casimiro III, 50, found shot in backyard of home on Brookside Parkway North Drive

July 11: Police were called about a person shot in the 3100 block of Brookside Parkway North Drive at 2:16 a.m., where they found Arturo Casimiro III, 50, shot. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead. A dog was also reported hurt, with trauma injuries unrelated to gunshots. Multiple others were detained at the scene but later released.

Jalen Stephen Williams, 30, shot in double shooting at home on Roosevelt Avenue

July 6: Police were called about a person shot in the 1800 block of Roosevelt Avenue at 12:50 a.m. Officers found two men shot on the front porch of a home. Jalen Stephen Williams, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Xavion Jackson, 16, and Azareaon S. Cole, 15, dead in downtown shooting after Fourth of July where multiple people were shot

July 5: Police were responding to a downtown disturbance just before 1:30 a.m. when they heard gunshots at West Market Street and North Illinois Street. Officers saw several people shot, one of whom was Xavion Jackson, 16, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Five people were taken to a hospital. Among them was Azareaon S. Cole, 15, who later died. Another juvenile sought treatment at Eskenazi Hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Police said the ages of those shot ranged from 16-21. Several firearms were also recovered, and four teens were arrested and charged following the shooting, with the Marion County Prosecutor stating more are to come, but no arrests were made specifically for the killing.

Dontae Anthony Lewis, 29, found shot dead near Ensign Graham Edward Martin Park

July 5: Police were called about a person shot in the 1300 block of Fall Creek Parkway East Drive at 3 p.m. Officers found Dontae Anthony Lewis, 29, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers originally reported the shooting as self-inflicted, but that cause was later ruled out following further investigation by detectives at the scene.

A man was arrested in January 2026.

David DeJesus Lira-Mojica, 23, dead in double shooting at Eagle Creek Park on Fourth of July

July 4: Police were called about a person shot in the 7900 block of Traders Lane at 7:30 p.m. inside Eagle Creek Park. Officers found two men shot on the shore next to a river. Both were taken to a hospital in critical condition, and David DeJesus Lira-Mojica, 23, was later pronounced dead.

On July 16, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced charges were filed in the case after an arrest.

Crysty L. Vazquez, 51, dead from believed accidental shooting at John J. Barton Towers

July 3: Police were called about a person shot in the 500 block of Massachusetts Avenue at the Indianapolis Housing Authority complex, John J. Barton Towers. At 5:06 p.m., Officers found Crysty L. Vazquez, 51, shot, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Two people at the scene were detained but later released. This is believed to be an unintentional discharge of a firearm.

A person of interest was detained at the scene and later released. Police believe the shooting was connected to a car crash reported in the 800 block of Massachusetts Avenue three miles away earlier.

June 28: Police were called about a person shot in the 4600 block of West Vermont Street near the Thatcher Golf Course shortly after 7 p.m. Officers found two people shot, a man and a woman. The man was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Courtney Lashaw Haynes, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kenneth Lyles, 31, and Johnny Talley Jr., 27, dead after triple shooting at Carriage House East Apartments

June 28: Police were patrolling in southeast Indianapolis near the intersection of North Mitthoefer Road and 42nd Street when they heard multiple gunshots just before 9 a.m. Officers found three people shot at Carriage House East Apartments. Kenneth Lyles, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two were taken to Eskenazi Hospital, where Johnny Talley Jr., 27, later died. The third person shot is in critical condition.

Two people were arrested at West 16th Street after a 15-mile-long chase through Indianapolis for Lyle’s shooting death.

June 20: Police were called about a person shot just before 11:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of North Kenyon Street. Officers found Shawna Renee Durst, 32, in the roadway of a neighborhood. She was taken to Methodist Hospital in critical condition, but later pronounced dead. Police also found a second victim, a man who had also been shot, and he was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

June 13: Police were called about an unconscious person in the 1100 block of North Tibbs Avenue at 9:38 a.m. Officers found Jermiaha Charles Billups, 19, who had been shot, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kia Robinson, 39, killed in double shooting on North Pennsylvania Street

June 3: Police were called to a shooting inside an apartment in the 3700 block of North Pennsylvania Street just after 4 a.m. Kia Robinson, 39, and a man were found shot. Robinson died at the scene, and the man was taken to a hospital in stable but serious condition. Police believe the shooting may have been related to a domestic dispute.

A man was arrested in the case.

Bailie Madison Blair, 19, shot on Burbank Road in East Gate neighborhood, man arrested

May 30: Police were called to a shooting in the first block of Burbank Road near East Washington Street in the city’s East Gate neighborhood shortly after 6 p.m. Inside a home there, police found Bailie Madison Blair, 19, with fatal gunshot wounds. While investigating and speaking with witnesses, police detained a 23-year-old man at the house as a person of interest.

After consulting with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, police said the man was arrested.

Laurice Pate, 19, shot in South Gladstone Avenue near Pleasant Run Parkway

May 28: Police were called to the 100 block of South Gladstone Avenue at 3:30 a.m. for a person shot. Officers found a Laurice Pate, 19, shot. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition, where he later died. Detectives said the shooting was believed to have started as a disturbance involving multiple people and a firearm.

May 19: Police were called to a house in the 200 block of North Lasalle Street just after 11 a.m. about a child who was unresponsive after reportedly falling down stairs. Officers found Zara Arnold, 5, with traumatic injuries, and she was declared dead at the scene.

Her father was arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent and murder.

Charles Clay Collins, 62, struck by vehicle during robbery at The Sterling apartment complex

May 17: Police were called to 8030 Madison Avenue on May 15 at The Sterling apartment complex just before 11:35 p.m. for the robbery of a person who was injured. Officers found Charles Clay Collins, 62, hurt from being hit by a vehicle, and he was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. He died two days later.

A man was charged with murder and robbery in connection with Collins’ death.

Martavius J. Gray, 17, dies in double shooting at block party near East 29th and North Dearborn streets

May 17: Police were patrolling a block party at the intersection of East 29th Street and North Dearborn Street at 10:34 p.m. Officers had previously been dispatched to the location earlier that night. While patrolling, they heard shots fired and saw a large crowd disperse. Police found a three-vehicle crash, believed to be where several individuals began shooting at one another.

Martavius J. Gray, 17, was found injured at the scene, and he was taken to a hospital in what was believed to be stable condition. Another man arrived at a hospital after being shot at the same party. That man was in stable condition.

Joseph Markus Lee, 42, found dead inside the Prairie Apartment Homes on Jamestown Court

May 15: Police were called to the 4500 block of Jamestown Court around 1 p.m. after receiving a report of a man who had died in an apartment. Joseph Markus Lee, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene, and officers began investigating the death as a homicide after learning he had been shot.

Another man was detained for unrelated charges 8 miles away in the 1800 block of Dr. MLK Jr. Street after being further questioned about the shooting. A man arrested on a murder charge in this killing had his case dismissed in March 2026.

Makylah Jean Brent, 24, shot in Massachusetts Avenue parking lot

May 14: Police were called to the 6400 block of Massachusetts Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. about a disturbance in a parking lot. When officers arrived, they found Makylah Jean Brent, 24, who had been shot. She died at the scene. Police are searching for a man they believe is the shooter.

Brian Anthony McCoy Jr., 31, stabbed on Waterfront Parkway West Drive

May 8: Police were called to the 2900 block of Waterfront Parkway West Drive near the Waterfront Park Apartments complex just after 11 a.m. for a report of a person stabbed. Officers found Brian Anthony McCoy Jr., 31, who was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A man was arrested for murder, robbery and auto theft in connection with the case.

Sapanna Q. Harris-Williams, 42, shot on West St. Claire Street

May 3: Police were called to the intersection of Chadbourne Drive and West St. Clair Street around 8:30 p.m. on a report of a person shot. Officers found Sapanna Q. Harris-Williams, 42, shot inside a vehicle. She died at the scene.

A person of interest was detained and later arrested for the shooting.

Aundre Johnson, 21, shot at Waterfront Pointe Apartments

May 1: Police were called to the 2900 block of Rolling Dunes Drive just before 2 p.m. at the Waterfront Pointe Apartments on the report of a vehicle crash, but dispatch later updated the report to a person shot. Officers found Aundre Johnson, 21, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case remains unsolved.

Bitegensimana Ndanayo, 26, shot behind shopping plaza on Madison Avenue

May 1: Police were called to the 8000 block of Madison Avenue at 12:24 a.m. on the report of a person shot and found Bitegensimana Ndanayo, 26, injured behind a shopping center. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but did not survive.

The case remains unsolved.

Darius Timberlake, 26, shot at Vernon Avenue home in Lawrence

April 23: Lawrence Police were called to a home in the 4500 block of Vernon Avenue around 3:30 a.m. about a person shot. Officers found Darius Timberlake, 26, shot, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was later arrested on a charge of murder in connection with Timberlake’s death.

Travon Jamal Davis, 25, shot inside apartment at The Hub at Nora

April 21: Police were called to an apartment complex in the 900 block of Lake Nora Court South just after 6:42 p.m. about a person shot. Officers found Travon Jamal Davis, 18, shot inside an apartment.

A person of interest was detained at the scene but later released pending further investigation.

The case remains unsolved.

Forrest Tab Grant, 62, shot near bus stop on West Morris Street

April 17: Police were called to an IndyGo bus stop at the intersection of West Morris and Hiatt streets about 1:30 p.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found 62-year-old Forrest Tab Grant shot. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition before later being pronounced dead.

A man was arrested on a charge of murder in connection with Grant’s death.

Malachi May, 18, found shot at gas station on city’s east side

April 15: Police were called to the 3400 block of North Emerson Avenue around 11:23 p.m. about a traffic crash, possibly with a person shot. Officers found Malachi May, 18, shot inside his pickup at a gas station and he was taken to Methodist in critical condition. He died in the hospital on April 17.

A 17-year-old was arrested in connection with May’s death on April 28. Court documents indicate the shooting arose during a gun purchase.

Sean J. Cox, 18, and Emmanuel J. Stone, 14, dead in a triple shooting on West 27th Street

April 6: Police were called to a home in the 1400 block of West 27th Street just before 8 p.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found Emmanuel Stone, 14, and Sean Cox, 18, shot at the location. Cox was pronounced dead at the scene. Stone died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Another man was also injured in the shooting.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested for his alleged role in this double homicide. Detectives believe this started as a disturbance during a gun exchange. 

Ryan Aaron McClellan, 61, found shot dead inside car on East Washington Street

April 3: Police were called to the 2000 block of East Washington Street at 7:25 p.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found Ryan Aaron McClellan, 61, shot inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case remains unsolved.

Jaiden D Gardfrey, 18, found shot dead on West 32nd Street

April 2: Police were called to a home in the 900 block of West 32nd Street at 4:40 p.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found Jaiden D. Gradfrey, 18, shot inside and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined the shooting happened after a disturbance between people who knew each other and after being shot, Gardfrey went to the house where he was found seeking assistance.

A man was arrested in this case.

Michael Lee Robertson, 19, shot inside a home on Ralston Avenue

April 1: Police were called to a home in the 3600 block of Ralston Avenue at 9:39 a.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found two men shot inside. One person was taken to a hospital in stable condition and the other, identified as Michael Lee Robertson, 19, was taken in critical condition, but later died. Investigators at the scene said a dispute with family members led to the shooting. A man was detained at the scene, but police said his role is unclear.

The case remains unsolved.

Tywon Jones, 17, shot dead after disturbance at northeast side gas station

March 30: Police were called to a gas station in the 10000 block of East 42nd Street around 7:09 p.m. on the report of shots fired. At the same time, another call came in regarding a shooting in the 10000 block of Ellis Drive a block away. Officers found boys shot at each location tied to the same shooting. Both were taken to Riley Children’s Hospital, one in critical condition and the other, Tywon Jones, 17, later being pronounced dead.

Another 17-year-old was arrested for the shooting.

Isaiah Booker, 19, found shot dead near dumpster at Carriage House East

March 30: Police were called to the 4100 block of Shady Oak Drive at Carriage House East Apartments just after 10:30 a.m. about a person shot. Officers found Isaiah Booker, 19, shot outside near a trash dumpster at the complex. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case remains unsolved.

Warren D. Murrell, Jr., 26, found shot dead at Frederick Square Apartments

March 28: Police were called to the 3000 block of North Webster Avenue at the Frederick Square Apartments complex at 11:40 p.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found Warren D. Murrell, 26, inside an apartment, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead.

The case remains unsolved.

David Doty, 48, found shot outside Rowney Terrace Apartments

March 28: Police were called to the 1300 block of Riley Place at the Rowney Terrace Apartments complex just after 3 p.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found David Doty, 48, shot outside, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He would later die from respiratory complications on June 27, 2025 at a rehabilitation center after being shot in the neck.

Police have made an arrest in the case.

James Walter McGuire, 48, found shot dead inside Rowney Terrace Apartments

March 28: Police were called to the 1300 block of Riley Place at the Rowney Terrace Apartments complex just after 3 p.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found a man who was taken to a hospital in critical condition, before locating James Walter McGuire, 48, shot inside an apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses described an armed suspect who was located by police half a mile away at the intersection of Prospect Street and Emerson Avenue before that man was shot by police and taken to a hospital in stable condition. That man was later charged with murder.

Kia Gooch, 29, dead after shooting on North Rural Street

March 25: Police were called to the 1800 block of North Rural Street at 10:58 p.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found Kia Gooch, 29, who was taken to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. She was later pronounced dead. A person of interest was detained at the scene but later released pending further investigation.

Mark Anthony Sanchez, 48, dead after shooting at Dayton Avenue home

March 24: Police were called to a home in the 600 block of Dayton Avenue at 8:32 a.m. and found two men shot outside. Both were taken to hospitals in critical condition. Mark Anthony Sanchez, 48, was later pronounced dead at Eskenazi Hospital. A child at the home was also taken to different hospitals in stable condition due to medical issues unrelated to the shooting.

Police believe the men knew each other. Investigators found two firearms at the scene and seized them as evidence.

Andre Dwayne Canady Jr., 32, shot on porch blocks south of Arsenal Technical High School

March 23: Police were called to a home in the 300 block of North Arsenal Avenue at 4:46 a.m. about a person shot. Officers found Andre Dwayne Canady Jr., 32, fatally shot on the front porch a few blocks south of Arsenal Tech.

They arrested his cousin, Warren Keith Highbaugh Jr., 30, for his alleged role in the shooting. According to a probable cause affidavit, Highbaugh said they had been drinking on a porch when a fight broke out, resulting in the shooting.

Kyle Joseph Sallee, 48, found shot inside a trailer park home on city’s westside

March 20: Police were called to the 9100 block of Wellston Drive at 3:08 p.m. for the report of a person shot. Officers found Kyle Joseph Sallee, 48, shot inside a home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A firearm was located, and a man was arrested and charged with Sallee’s killing.

Clarence McGauhey, 36, found shot at Travel Inn hotel parking lot

March 12: Police were called to the Travel Inn hotel, 4950 S East Street, at 7:26 a.m. about a person shot. Officers found Clarence McGauhey, 36, on the ground in the parking lot. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

The case remains unsolved.

Georgia Ann Beans, 63, shot at Serenity Manor at Indianapolis

March 9: Police were called to the living community complex in the 1100 block of North Edmondson Avenue at 11:28 a.m. about a person shot. Officers found Georgia Ann Beans, 63, shot dead.

While at the scene, they identified and arrested Darrien Curry, 60, who was charged with murder.

Charles L. Mitchell Jr., 21, dies at hospital

March 9: Police were called to Community East Hospital just after 3 a.m. after a person arrived with gunshot injuries. Officers found Charles L. Mitchell, 21, being treated by medical staff, but he was later pronounced dead. The shooting happened in the 7100 block of Twin Oaks Drive at the Kingston Square apartment complex.

The case remains unsolved.

Shawn Lamont Woods, 52, stabbed at Peppermill Farms Apartments

March 8: Police were called to a northeast complex in the 4300 block of Shady View Drive just after 10 p.m. on the report of a person stabbed. Officers found Shawn Lamont Woods, 52, with injuries consistent with trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case remains unsolved.

Lucas Brearly, 19 and Zachary Johnson, 25, found dead after Brownsburg police heard gunshots

March 5: Brownsburg Police were called to a residential neighborhood in the 300 block of Acre Avenue around 2:30 a.m. after hearing shots fired near their headquarters. They found two men dead. The department later identified them as Lucas Brearley, 19, and Zachary Johnson, 25. Both are from Indianapolis. A person of interest was taken into custody.

Ralph McCraig, 57, shot after a neighbor dispute over loud music in Lawrence

March 4: Lawrence Police were called to a home in the 9300 block of Kingsboro Court near East 46th Street and North Post Road at 5:26 a.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found Ralph McCraig, 57, shot once on the road. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. No arrests were immediately announced. 

Chastin Wayne Wheeler, 40, shot near the Brookside Community Center

March 2: Police were called to the 3500 block of Brookside Parkway South Drive at 9:12 p.m. on Feb. 28 for a report of a person shot. Officers found Chastin Wayne Wheeler, 40, near the Brookside Community Center, and he was taken to Methodist Hospital in critical condition before dying two days later.

The case remains unsolved.

Griffin Peyton Russo, 18, shot to death inside an apartment at The Hub at Nora

March 2: Police were called to an apartment complex in the 900 block of Lake Nora North Court just after 1:50 a.m. Officers found Griffin Peyton Russo, 18, shot inside an apartment. A person of interest was detained at the scene but later released pending further investigation.

Joshua Malaqui Harris, 20, found shot in a car crash at an intersection

Feb. 28: Police were called to the 4700 block of West 56th Street just after 9 p.m. for a shots-fired report. At the same time, they were called to a two-car crash a mile away at the intersection of the 6200 block of Georgetown Road and 62nd Street on the report of a personal injury crash with one driver possibly unresponsive and shot.

Officers found Joshua Harris, 20, shot inside a car, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Robert Blaine Smith, 32, shot at Texas Roadhouse

Feb. 28: Police were called to the Texas Roadhouse in the 4300 block of Southport Crossings Drive at 9 p.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found Robert Blaine Smith, 32, outside in the parking lot and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He later died.

An off-duty IMPD officer at the scene detained a man later arrested and charged with murder.

Pedro Amasifuen Mozombite, 38, found shot dead in alley on west side

Feb. 27: Police were called to an alley behind the 1100 block of North Somerset Avenue at 3:11 a.m. on the report of a person down. Officers found Pedro Amasifuen Mozombite, 38, shot dead in an alley.

On March 12, a man was arrested on a charge of murder for the shooting.

Cruize Hodge, 28, found shot on Oakland Avenue on city’s east side

Feb. 25: Police were called to the 400 block of Oakland Avenue at 5:38 a.m. on the city’s east side on the report of a person shot. Officers found a Cruize Hodge, 28, shot in the roadway. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead.

One man was arrested in the killing on March 6 and another was arrested on March 9.

Adam Javonta Sykes, 31, fatally shot by IMPD officer Grant Snyder

Feb. 25: Police were called to a gas station in the 1600 block of East Washington Street about 2:15 a.m. on the report of a person injured. Dispatch said a woman was assaulted by multiple people and had walked into the gas station.

While following up with the woman, 3rd year patrol officer, Grant Snyder, noticed a man, later identified as 31-year-old Adam Javonta Sykes, believed to have an active arrest warrant.

Sykes fled when Snyder tried to talk to him. During that chase, Snyder deployed a Taser before Sykes was shot. Police said a handgun was found next to his body. It’s unclear if he pointed it at police.

The case remains unsolved.

Kristopher Rashad Somerville, 36, dies in shooting on West 34th Street

Feb. 25: Police were called to the 5300 block of West 34th Street at 12:25 a.m., about a person shot. Officers found Kristopher Rashad Somerville, 36, shot. He was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly later.

The case remains unsolved.

Nevaeh Jordan Hill, 19, shot at Wylde at Eagle Creek apartment complex

Feb. 24: Police were called to an apartment complex in the 6700 block of Eagle Pointe Drive North at 9:33 p.m. for a report of a disturbance with a weapon. Officers found evidence of someone shot at the scene but were then told about a man, later identified as 19-year-old Nevaeh Hill, with injuries at a nearby fire station. Hill was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. He died the next day.

The case remains unsolved.

Demetrius Starks, 21, found fatally shot inside a car on Shelby Street

Feb. 19: Police were called to the 7600 block of Shelby Street about 12:15 p.m. on the report of a person shot and found Demetrius Starks, 21, fatally shot inside a vehicle.

On March 1, a man was arrested in the case.

Cameron Curtis Clay, 20, shot dead in quadruple shooting near Wes Montgomery Park

Feb. 18: Police were called to the 3500 block of Wallace Avenue near Wes Montgomery Park on the city’s east side for a shots-fired report that was later updated to a person shot. Officers found two men shot inside a home, and one of the men, Cameron Curtis Clay, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other man was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Officers then found two more men outside nearby, who were taken to a hospital in stable condition. During the investigation, a large amount of narcotics was found and taken as evidence from the house, police said.

Tyrisha Adashauna Gray, 24, found dead with trauma at 16 Park Apartments

Feb. 16: Police were called to the 1600 block of North Park Avenue at 16 Park Apartments on a request for a welfare check of a person. Officers found Tyrisha Adashauna Gray, 24, inside an apartment with trauma to her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was arrested in the case.

Willie Stott, 44, shot inside Bussey & Harris Barber Shop West

Feb. 1: Police were called to 2523 West 10th Street at the Bussey & Harris Barber Shop West on a report of gunfire just after 4 p.m. Officers found Willie Stott, 44, shot inside the business and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died. Police believe the shooting started with a disturbance inside the shop.

The case remains unsolved.

Camari Hunt, 23, found shot less than half a mile from IPS School

Jan. 31: Police were called to Waterfront Terrace Apartments in the 5000 block of West 36th Terrace at 12:48 p.m. about a person shot. Officers found Camari Hunt, 23, lying outside a car with gunshot injuries. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition but died shortly after arrival.

The case remains unsolved.

Skylar Gardner, 2, dies after being found under dresser inside apartment

Jan. 25: Police were called to the 6300 block of Newberry Road just after 6:30 p.m. at Timber Point Apartments for a report of a death investigation. There, they found a Skylar Gardner, 2, with bruising over most of her body, bite marks on her back and arm, frostbite on her hands and feet, and a puncture wound near her neck.

Skylar’s mother, Chantell Gardner, was charged with murder and neglect. Her boyfriend was charged with two counts of assisting a criminal.

Jarrell Lamont Pryor, 26, found shot on East 49th Street neighborhood road

Jan. 25: Police were called to the 1600 block of East 49th Street just after 1:15 a.m. on the report of a person shot. Officers found 26-year-old Jarrell Lamont Pryor shot on the road next to a stopped car. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he died.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested in the case along with her boyfriend and another man.

Rodney Nixon Jr., 37, found shot at Proctor Place Apartments

Jan. 20: Police were called to the 200 block of North Warman Avenue on the report of a person shot just after 3:30 a.m. at the Proctor Place apartment complex. Officers found Rodney Nixon Jr., 37, shot and unresponsive inside an apartment. A person of interest was detained but later released pending further investigation. Multiple firearms were taken from the scene.

On April 1, IMPD announced the arrest of a 16-year-old boy for his alleged role in the shooting.

Chyon Andre Crabtree, 25, found shot on Holloway Avenue

Jan. 19: Police were called to the 1800 block of Holloway Avenue around 3:30 a.m. on the report of an unresponsive person. Inside a home Chyon Andre Crabtree, 25, was found dead. He’d been shot at least once. According to Fox59, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and Cumberland Police are trying to determine if this shooting is related to another one that happened 24 hours prior, in which Crabtree was involved.

The case remains unsolved.

Mary Ogle, 76, fatally beaten at home on Questend Drive

Jan. 17: Police were called to a death investigation at a home in the 2800 block of Questend Drive South just after 1 p.m. Officers found Mary Ogle, 76, fatally beaten. Her husband, 79-year-old Terry Ogle, was detained at the scene and taken to a hospital for self-inflicted injuries before being arrested in the case.

Jeremy L. Patton, 38, shot dead during a robbery at Overlook at the Fairgrounds Apartments

Jan 15: Police were called to the Overlook at the Fairgrounds apartment complex in the 1700 block of East 38th Street at 11:30 p.m. on the report of a burglary in progress. Once there, police found Jeremy L. Patton, 38, fatally shot inside an apartment. A person of interest was detained at the scene but later released.

The case remains unsolved.

Trevor Matthew Marrero, 23, shot dead after failed carjacking at Trader’s Point shopping complex

Jan 15: Police were called to the 5700 block of West 86th Street shortly after 5:40 a.m. after a person was shot in a failed carjacking in the parking lot of the Trader’s Point shopping complex. Officers learned that three suspects attempted to rob two people.

One of the people being robbed was armed and shot one of the suspects, who died at the hospital. The man shot was identified as Trevor Matthew Marrero, 23. The two attempted robbery victims remained on scene and cooperated with police.

Bethany Collette, 47, died after a domestic dispute at Timber Point Apartments

Jan. 13: Police were called to the 7100 block of Kingswood Court on the city’s northeast side just after 2 a.m. on the report of a man who barricaded himself inside an apartment, holding two women hostage and refusing to come outside. SWAT teams and negotiators tried to get the man to exit the apartment at the Timber Point complex for several hours before one of the women escaped and it was learned that there were shots fired inside. SWAT entered the unit and discovered that the man and one of the women had been shot.

Both were taken to a hospital in critical condition, where the woman later died. The woman’s ex-husband identified her as Bethany Collette, 47. The mother of the man’s child identified him as Juan Gaitan II, 46. The Marion County Coroner’s Office confirmed he died by suicide from an intraoral gunshot wound.

Deandra Clay-Staples, 14, left in snow at Laurelwood Apartments

Jan. 11: Police were called to the 1400 block of Salisbury Lane just after 11 a.m. when a 911 caller reported someone unconscious outside. There, they found a teen girl shot dead and left in the snow outside. Family and friends identified her as 14-year-old Deandra Staples. Police are investigating her death as a homicide. She’s the first youth homicide for the year.

The case remains unsolved.

Lowell Randall Quinnette, 60, and Deborah Denise Russell, 57, found shot during welfare check in double homicide

Jan 8: Police were called to the 5200 block of East 20th Place at 2:27 p.m. for a welfare check of a person. There, they found Lowell Randall Quinnette, 60, and Deborah Denise Russell, 57, dead from gunshot wounds. Russell’s cause of death was ruled a homicide, and Quinnette’s cause of death was pending until it was later updated as a homicide.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred at about 8:35 p.m. on Jan. 7, though the investigation is ongoing. Both shootings are being investigated as homicides.

Shannon Ramone Campbell Jr., 23, fatally shot on Howard Street

Jan 3: Two men were shot in the 1800 block of Howard Street at 3:37 p.m. One man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and the other, Shannon Ramone Campbell Jr., 23, died at the scene. Officers also found a car nearby.

On Jan. 14, police announced an arrest in the case.

Charles Arnold Jr., 53, fatally shot on North Capitol Avenue

Jan. 3: Indianapolis Metropolitan Police found Charles Arnold Jr., 53, fatally shot in the 2900 block of North Capitol Avenue at 4:12 a.m. While a person was detained, they were found to be uninvolved, and no charges have been filed.

The case remains unsolved.

Sebastian Prayer Jones, 29, dead after shooting on Capsella Lane

Jan. 2: Sebastian Prayer Jones, 29, was found fatally shot by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police at a home in the 3200 block of Capsella Lane at 8:51 p.m. Two other men were found shot at the scene, and both were transported to hospitals, one in critical condition and the other in stable.

On Feb. 21, police announced the arrest of a man for his alleged role in the shooting. A probable cause for his arrest revealed that a firearm sale was supposed to happen. At some point, Jones and a man were wrestling over a gun before the man who was arrested began shooting at everybody in the home.
