Indiana lands states top 2027 prospect, does it impact Notre Dame?

On Friday, 2027 in-state wide receiver Monshun Sales made his commitment to the Indiana Hoosiers, the state’s top player opting not to play for Notre Dame.

The Irish had been out of the running for the 5-star prospect for quite some time, so him committing elsewhere isn’t big news, but him selecting Indiana is. It had been Ohio State with the best luck in landing the state’s top player, but the reigning National Champions now hold a lot more weight in recruiting.

The impact that this has for Notre Dame might not be as big as one would think, as the Irish don’t have any commitments from its home state. The national presence for the Blue and Gold is different from most programs, as the coast to coast reach gives Notre Dame a distinct advantage.

In the 2027 cycle, the Irish have commitments from the East (New Jersey and Pennsylvania), the South (Louisiana and Florida), the Midwest (Illinois and Ohio) and West (Colorado). Those aren’t even all the states, it just telling that Sales committing to Indiana really doesn’t make an impact on Notre Dame recruiting philosophy.
