BLOOMINGTON — Indiana basketball has scheduled a preseason exhibition against North Carolina on Oct. 18 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The tip-off time and TV broadcast information will be announced at a later date, but tickets will go on sale this Thursday.
The NCAA has continued to ease the rules for scheduling preseason games against Division 1 teams in recent years. The Hoosiers won a preseason showdown 76-74 over Baylor in Indianapolis last year at Gainbridge. In 2023, they traveled down to Knoxville and beat Tennessee during the preseason.
After losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last year, North Carolina fired coach Hubert Davis and hired former Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone as his replacement. Malone, who is the winningest coach in Nuggets history, led the team to an NBA title in 2023. Like IU, he rebuilt much of the Tar Heels roster through the transfer portal after taking over.
Indiana won the most recent matchup between the teams, 77-65, at Assembly Hall in 2022. It was the 16th time all-time the programs have played each other.
