SOUTH BEND — An iconic downtown restaurant in a historic mansion has closed, according to its Facebook page.
Tippecanoe Place Restaurant has closed effective immediately, management posted on the night of Monday, Jan. 5.
The restaurant opened in 1980 in the mansion built in 1887 by Clement Studebaker, the second-oldest of the five Studebaker brothers, and the first to move to South Bend.
In 2018, the Studebaker Brewing Co. opened its first brewpub at Tippecanoe Place. A second location opened later in New Carlisle, but the original location has closed along with the restaurant, according to a statement released by the brewing company.
The restaurant was featured in a February 2025 Taste column in The Tribune.
Future plans for the mansion were not made clear Monday night.
