Colts updated salary cap outlook: Indianapolis near bottom with regular season upon us

With the regular season upon us, let’s update the Indianapolis Colts’ current salary cap situation.

Now that the dust has settled, with 53-man rosters and practice squads set, the Colts currently have $5.982 million in available salary cap space, according to Over the Cap.

Compared to the rest of the NFL, this ranks as the ninth-lowest available cap space total.

While, of course, we won’t see any big spending during this time of the year, the Colts do still need available cap space to maintain roster flexibility.

This can include elevating players from the practice squad to the game day rosters–that requires cap space–along with having reserves to make a free agent signing or perhaps a trade.

Ballard mentioned recently that the Colts aren’t done exploring potential outside additions.

The Colts don’t have a surplus of cap space by any means, as the rankings suggest, but again, any of the aforementioned potential moves won’t eat up much cap space either.
