Chris Ballard highlights 3 positions of strength for Colts in 2025

What three of the Indianapolis Colts’ position groups does GM Chris Ballard believe will be strengths for the team this season?

Not surprisingly, the first two that he mentioned were the offensive and defensive lines–two units he’s invested heavily in over the years, both in terms of draft capital and contract value.

There are some unknowns along the offensive lines with two first-time starters in Tanor Bortolini and Matt Goncalves, but both were mostly able to hold their own over the summer.

The defensive end position is loaded with talent, so much so that one of the top performers from the preseason for the Colts, Isaiah Land, was released.

The defensive tackle position is, of course, anchored by Grover Stewart and DeForest Buckner. The Colts are also very bullish on Neville Gallimore, although whether Adetomiwa Adebawore or Eric Johnson can emerge to fill that back-end rotational role remains to be seen.

The third position group mentioned by Ballard was the wide receivers. This is another very deep room for the Colts that features, like a basketball team, a variety of different skill sets, which opens up the playbook for Shane Steichen as he builds out game plans and means there’s more for the defense to account for.

“We had to make some cuts there that were pretty tough,” Ballard said of the receiver position, specifically noting Laquon Treadwell.

Ballard didn’t mention cornerback or running back, but I would imagine those are two other position groups that are on his radar when it comes to the strengths of this Colts team.

The cornerback unit has been reshaped, and joining Kenny Moore in the starting lineup are Charvarius Ward and Xavien Howard. The running back position still features Jonathan Taylor, but this year he will be paired with rookie DJ Giddens.
