The Cedar Street Bridge will be closed beginning June 1 for a series of repairs that will last well into the summer.
The Illinois Department of Transportation said that the bridge will be closed between Washington Street in Peoria and Edmund Street in East Peoria from June 1 into mid-to-late August in order to perform joint replacement, deck patching and electrical work over the span.
IDOT said that a detour would be posted for motorists seeking to travel from one side of the Illinois River to the other. They recommend that motorists allow extra time traveling through the area, as delays will be expected.
IDOT says that people should use alternative routes if possible and pay attention to changing conditions in the work zone. They are also asked to obey posted speed limits, refrain from using their mobile devices and be on alert for workers and equipment.
