The weekend brings an Adults Only Swim and a Side by Side Ride, along with fundraisers, live music and more to the Galesburg area.
Neighborhood Listening Walk
What: Walk through the green spaces outside the library and use your ears to explore and connect to the world. After the walk, create sound maps of what you can hear. This event is for all ages; children younger than 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
When: 10-11 a.m. June 26

Adults Only Swim
What: Unwind from the week for an after-hours pool party. This event is for adults, age 18 and older. A special mocktail menu will be available.

Where: Lakeside Splashzone Waterpark, 1033 South Lake Storey Road, Galesburg
Cost: $8
Nighttime Illuminations
What: Talk about the moon and stars, along with the concept of bioluminescence. Take a guided moonlit stroll through the woods.

Cost: $5; $15 per family
Side by Side Ride
What: Sign up for this second annual event starts at 10 a.m. Riders will leave at 11 a.m. This will be a follow-the-leader type ride. The route will be announced on event day. 50-50 raffle tickets will be available until the group arrives that evening. This year, in honor of our country’s 250th anniversary, there will be a theme to the ride. Please deck out your rides and yourselves in all things red, white and blue. This is a fundraiser for the Rio Fire Department.

Big Blowout Party
What: To celebrate the 250th Anniversary, the American Legion is throwing a party. There will be everything from food to face painting, bounce houses to music. 90 Proof Stu plays from 3-6 p.m. Enjoy more music afterward from DJ and Whiskey Ridge. Bring a lawn chair.
When: 11 a.m. June 27
Where: American Legion 749 Henderson Road, Knoxville
Enchilada Day
What: Enchiladas are $3 each; add a side of beans for $1. This is a fundraiser for Cat n Around Rescue. There will entertainment from Music by Carlos at 7 p.m. Bakes goods will also be available for purchase.
When: 1 p.m. June 27 until gone
Where: Shady Hill Saloon, 1374 Monmouth Blvd., Galesburg
Open Mic
What: Enjoy a relaxed, welcoming open mic. Share original music or just come listen and enjoy the atmosphere. Performers will get 10-minute sets. House instruments will be available. There will be food and drink options available.
When: 2-4 p.m. June 27
Where: The Beanhive, 124 E. Simmons St., Galesburg
Cost: Free admission
Engineer Straw Rockets
What: Celebrate the 4th of July and make your own straw rockets.
When: Noon – 2 p.m. June 28

Arts in Action: Songs in Our Lives
What: In partnership with Knox College’s Arts in Action course, students will host a series of workshops. Participants will choose a special song connected to a memory or story from their lives. The song could be tied to a specific time period, event or place. Listen to each song and discuss how the music connects to personal stories. The goal is to explore how and why we connect to music and to create a sense of community through a shared listening experience. Online registration is requested.

WQPT Summer Storytime
What: Join WQPT to view a PBS Kids program, hear a story and participate in a hands-on activity. Each child will also receive a free PBS KIDS Summer Activity Book and resources for accessing online content at PBSKIDS.org. Storytime is for kids age 3 and older.

Family Trivia Night
What: Bring a team for an evening of competitive trivia. Teams should have between 3-6 members and each team must contain at least one child. Registration is required. Snacks will be provided.
