Rome Odunze accomplished something only Walter Payton did in Bears history

Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze has emerged as one of the breakout players in the NFL through the first four weeks, where he’s established himself as the team’s WR1.

Odunze has 30 receptions for 296 yards, where he’s averaging 74 yards per game. Odunze has also scored in every game this season, and he has five total touchdowns this season — second only to Detroit’s Amon-Ra St. Brown (6).

Odunze is the first Bears player to score a touchdown in each of the team’s first four (or more) games in a season since Hall of Famer Walter Payton in 1986, according to FOX Sports.

Odunze is on pace for a season with 85 receptions, 1,258 yards and 21 touchdowns. For what it’s worth, that would be the third-most touchdowns by a receiver in NFL history. It’s also unlikely to happen as it’s difficult to keep this level of production, touchdown wise, for an entire season.

But it certainly appears that Odunze is on track for his first 1,000-yard season as his connection with quarterback Caleb Williams continues to flourish.
