ROCKFORD, IL — The victim of a fatal shooting found in the early morning hours of July 10 in the 700 block of 7th Avenue was identified as Nathanael Fansler, 43, of Machesney Park, by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.
Rockford Police Department officers found Fansler lying near some bushes. They had been called to the area to conduct a welfare check.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Winnebago County Coroner personnel at 5:46 a.m.
An autopsy determined that Fansler died because of a gunshot wound.
Rockford police continue to investigate in conjunction with the coroner’s office.
