An inmate at the Peoria County Jail escaped Wednesday while he was undergoing medical treatment at Carle Health Methodist Hospital, sparking a search for his whereabouts that ended when he was found along a nearby street.
Michael L. Poulson, 49, has been held at the jail since May 23 after being charged with aggravated battery and domestic battery charges. According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, Poulson was undergoing treatment at 1:30 p.m. at Methodist, under the supervision of a correctional officer, when he escaped from a hospital room.
The sheriff’s office said that he ran out of the hospital and began going eastbound on Glen Oak Avenue, with sheriff’s deputies and Peoria police officers looking for him.
According to the sheriff’s office, Poulson was found along Northeast St. Mark’s Court near OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center and taken back into custody.
Poulson is set to go to trial on the battery charges on Sept. 8 at 9 a.m.
