The Chicago Bears defense struggled to get sacks last season with only three players having at least four sacks. To help generate more pressure in the backfield this season, the Bears brought in some defensive help, including defensive tackle Neville Gallimore.
After spending the first four years of his career with the Dallas Cowboys, Gallimore spent 2024 with the Los Angeles Rams and last season with the Indianapolis Colts. His year with the Colts was the best in his career so far with a career-high in quarterback hits (6), sacks (3.5), solo tackles (18) and total tackles (38). Gallimore also tied his career high in tackles for loss with four.
Gallimore is already a welcome addition to the Bears’ locker room. According to defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, Gallimore has already brought an edge and life to the locker room as well as being a highly productive player.
“He’s a heck of a competitor,” Jarrett said. “He brings an edge to our defense as a whole and … you can tell he loves his job. He definitely brings life to the room. But he’s a worker first, and he’s going to be a highly productive player for us. I’m happy that he’s with us.”
With Chicago’s defensive line injuries so far, Gallimore may get more starting reps than originally anticipated. Montez Sweat was injured in training camp while Shemar Turner, one of the Bears’ rookies from 2025, is on the physically unable to perform list.
Chicago’s defense is also littered with injuries at the linebacker position and in the secondary, so the Bears most likely are not finished adding players before the first game of the regular season in September.
