A Mexican restaurant in Morton was the lone establishment to fail a compliance check conducted recently by the Morton Police Department, with help from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission.
Fuego Mexican Restaurant Bar and Grill, located at 120 West Jefferson St. in Morton, failed the compliance check, which utilizes people under the age of 21 trying to purchase alcohol from local establishments with the help of staff from ILCC’s enforcement division.
Fuego was one of 12 establishments tested for compliance with the Illinois Liquor Control Act, which prohibits the sale of alcohol to people under the age of 21. The businesses that passed were:
ILCC and Morton police also conducted compliance checks for tobacco products, with 10 businesses being tested and all of them passing. Those establishments were:
Morton police said that there were some stores that couldn’t be tested due to operating hours, with adjustments being made to future compliance checks to settle those tests.
Business owners found to be in violation of the Liquor Control Act will be charged with a Class A misdemeanor and fined $500.
