The Chicago Bears conducted their second voluntary practice of OTAs on Wednesday, which was the first one open to the media.
It provided a first glimpse of second-year head coach Ben Johnson’s squad on the practice field, and it’s safe to say that his offense, in particular, has come a long way from this time last year. Johnson discussed quarterback Caleb Williams’ progress and his role in helping lead a much smoother operation during OTAs in Year 2. Johnson also had high praise for second-year receiver Luther Burden III, where he pointed to his explosive plays during workouts.
As for Thursday’s practice, there were some notable standouts, including Williams (whose deep-play ability was on display), as well as rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas and his speed. But it also sounded like there’s still plenty to clean up with the pre-snap penalties, which hopefully doesn’t become a trend once again.
