Illinois football has a bye week in Week 8 as it prepares for a road matchup with Washington.
The No. 25 Fighting Illini are coming off a 34-16 loss to No. 1 Ohio State, its second of the season along with a loss to No. 3 Indiana.
Illinois is facing Washington for the first time since the Huskies joined the Big Ten Conference. The programs met in 2013 and 2014. Before that, the programs had not met since the early 1970s.
The game will be important for coach Bret Bielema and Illinois, as their College Football Playoff hopes stay alive only if the Fighting Illini win the rest of their games.

Illinois is off for Week 8 of the 2025 season, as the Fighting Illini have another week to prepare for its Week 8 game against Washington (5-1), who plays this week at Michigan.
The Fighting Illini have one more bye week this season on Nov. 8, after their home game against Rutgers and before their matchup with Maryland at home.
