White Plains Hospital officials and community members gathered Thursday, May 7, for a “topping off” ceremony to place the final steel beam in the health care facility’s transformational expansion project.
The event marked a milestone in the hospital’s largest project to date — a new 10-story tower that will include an emergency department and 240 private patient rooms. The construction work began about a year ago.
The 475,000-square-foot building is rising on the site of the former Davis Avenue parking garage. The $2 billion expansion also includes plans for a new parking structure with about 2,000 spaces.
The move is to address the hospital’s surging numbers of patients and alleviate severe overcrowding. Over the past decade, patient services at White Plains Hospital have increased by 68%, while emergency room and surgical visits have grown by 80%, The Journal News/lohud reported at the time of the groundbreaking in May 2025.
During the ceremony on Thursday, Susan Fox, president and CEO of White Plains Hospital, described the project’s progress as the result of the health care provider’s yearslong strategy to meet patients’ needs.
“Over the last decade, we are so proud to have added so many new services to what we do close to home for our community,” she said.
