EAST PEORIA – Visitors should not bother bringing tobacco products or electronic smoking devices to Levee Park.
The city code prohibits their use there.
The East Peoria City Council approved an ordinance during Tuesday’s meeting adding Levee Park to a city code provision that forbids smoking and the use of electronic cigarettes at the city’s EastSide Centre sports complex. The ban on smoking is an effort “to maintain a family friendly environment” at the park, said Ty Livingston, the city’s director of planning and community development.
“The city has recently completed construction of all the facilities in Levee Park,” he said. “And the city seeks to make Levee Park open for general use by citizens, families, and visitors.”
The ordinance also makes corrections to the references to “tobacco products” and “electronic cigarettes” definitions in other provisions that regulate smoking in the city code.
