Dunlap capped its softball state finals run with a fourth-place finish.
The fifth-ranked Eagles lost to Oak Park Fenwick 1-0 in the Illinois High School Association Class 3A third-place game on Saturday, June 6 at Louisville Slugger Sports Complex. This Dunlap team (30-10) shares the program’s highest state finish with the 1992 Class A fourth-place team.
Dunlap ace and Illinois signee Sutton Centoni was nearly flawless, taking a perfect game into the fifth inning. She retired the first two batters of the frame before an error ended the shot at perfection.
Centoni then gave up a single to Sophia Leonardi — Fenwick’s lone hit of the game — to lead off the sixth. She came around to score on an error for the game’s only run for the unranked Friars (23-12).
Centoni finished with 11 strikeouts and one walk. Addison Forsythe had the lone hit for Dunlap, which left runners on base in the first, second and fifth innings.
