The Chicago Bears have historically been known for their offensive prowess, but that’s quickly changing with head coach Ben Johnson and quarterback Caleb Williams in town.
In just one year, Johnson took the offense from among one of the worst to one of the best in the league. The Bears finished as the fourth best offense in the NFL, averaging 375.7 yards per game. They also finished in the top 10 in a slew of categories, including points per game (25.7, 9th), rushing yards per game (142.3, 3rd) and passing yards per game (233.4, 8th), yards per play (5.7, 9th) and third-down conversion rate (43.77%, 5th). They also saw the emergence of some young playmakers, including Williams and rookies Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III.
Despite that first-year success, this offense still has a long way to go to reach its full potential, which is the most exciting thing. The expectation is that this Chicago offense will be an explosive one in 2026, and Loveland explained what he’s seen during the offseason program that makes him believe that.
“Just more completions and you’re seeing everyone’s in the right spot,” Loveland said. “Things are just flowing a little smoother. Obviously, you’re seeing there’s a lot to clean up still and a lot to get better at, which is exciting news because it’s always a good thing when you have more to get and more to do.”
After a year of learning Johnson’s complex scheme and putting it into action, a good portion of the starting offense now has a full year under their belt and feels more comfortable in Year 2. That should lead to progress and even more production in 2026, where the Bears have the potential to once again be among the league’s best offenses.
