More than 200 flights have been canceled out of Chicago Midway and O’Hare airports Wednesday amid severe storms and tornado watches.
The two airports also saw more than 1,000 flight delays, with average delays at O’Hare surpassing an hour.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning across much of central Illinois Wednesday morning, following up in the afternoon to predict a new watch for tornadoes with peak intensities of 140-170 mph.
Hundreds of Chicago flights affected by delays, cancellations
More than 200 Chicago flights were canceled Wednesday at O’Hare and Midway airports as of 2 p.m. CT.
O’Hare saw an additional 974 delays, with 119 at Midway, according to the facilities’ websites.
Average delays for flights arriving at O’Hare reached roughly 83 minutes, while departing flights saw average delays of about 59 minutes.
Delays at Midway were much shorter, at less than 15 minutes.
