The Chicago Bears have activated left tackle Ozzy Trapilo from the physically unable to perform list, the team announced Sunday.
Trapilo established himself as Chicago’s starting left tackle in the second half of his rookie 2025 season, but he suffered a ruptured patellar tendon during a wild-card playoff win against the Green Bay Packers back in January. Initially, there was concern it could alter his career. But the Bears were confident that he’d return in form, although he was expected to miss most of the 2026 season. Now, he’s way ahead of schedule for his projected return.
Now, with Trapilo eligible to practice, he certainly factors into the ongoing competition at left tackle between Braxton Jones, Kiran Amegadjie and Jedrick Wills Jr. Once he ramps up, you have to wonder if he’s the immediate favorite for the job.
Last week in an interview with Hoge & Jahns, general manager Ryan Poles said Trapilo could “potentially” return before the end of training camp this month. And that’s exactly what happened.
“We’ve talked about the different scenarios,” Poles said. “Whether he comes back and has a little bit of training camp, if he comes back in September. I think the big thing for us is padded practices. If you get too far down the line, it gets really hard to get that physical practice that you need to prepare for games.”
This is a huge boost for the offensive line, especially given the uncertainty at left tackle.
