The Chicago Bears announced several roster moves following their preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns, where Chicago won, 34-10, on Saturday.
The Bears have signed defensive end Marcus Davenport and defensive back Deantre Prince. Chicago also waived running back Coleman Bennett and waived tight end Nikola Kalinic with an injury designation in corresponding roster moves.
Davenport, who worked out for the Bears on Sunday, is certainly the biggest addition. The former first-round pick in has experience playing in defensive coordinator Dennis Allen’s scheme and brings veteran experience to the table. Davenport played for Allen for five seasons (2018-22) with the New Orleans Saints, where the edge rusher had the best seasons of his career. In that span, he totaled 21.5 sacks and 25 tackles for loss.
Davenport has also had stints with other NFC North teams having spent the 2023 season with the Minnesota Vikings and then playing for the Detroit Lions from 2024-25. But he’s been unable to reach the impact he had during his time with Allen in New Orleans.
Prince is a former fifth-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2024. He appeared in two games during his rookie season, where he totaled eight tackles and one pass breakup. In 2025, Prince was part of Jacksonville’s final roster cuts. Back in January 2026, Prince was selected by the Louisville Kings in the United Football League but was released on May 5.
