Bears OT Braxton Jones exits practice with apparent injury

Chicago Bears offensive tackle Braxton Jones exited Thursday’s training camp practice with an apparent injury, according to media in attendance. The Bears ramped the intensity in practice by putting the pads back on with 9-on-7 running drills early on.

During 1-on-1 reps, Jones appeared to get hurt on the second rep going against defensive end Austin Booker. According to Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune, Jones was able to walk off the field under his own power but threw his helmet in frustration as he exited with trainer Andre Tucker.

There is no word yet on the severity of the injury, and there are conflicting opinions early on from the media. ESPN’s Courtney Cronin notes she believes Jones was fighting back tears, while CHGO’s Adam Hoge doesn’t believe the injury seemed terribly bad.

Jones re-signed with the Bears this offseason and had been in the driver’s seat for the starting left tackle position while competing with Jedrick Wills and Kiran Amegadjie. If he has to miss an extended period of time, the Bears will need to turn to one of them in the interim. Amegadjie took over Jones’ spot with the first-team offense after he left the field.
