Where Florida basketball's front court grades, ranks v other top teams

Florida basketball’s 5-4 start has been disappointing in many ways, but one area of the team that has not let the Gators down is the dominance of the team’s frontcourt.

In fact, if it were not for the stellar play from the forward and center positions, the program could be in even more dire straits in defending its 2025-26 title. Thomas Haugh, who has switched from the 4 to the 3 positions this fall, has been practically lights out so far, while center Reuben Chinyelu has been a double-double machine.

Many believe that the Orange and Blue might possess the best frontcourt three in the country after nine games played. According to CBS Sports’ Isaac Trotter, Florida ranks fifth in the nation with a “B” grade after one month of play.

CBS Sports explains Florida’s frontcourt strengths

“Florida wants to be better than 5-4, but it’s hard to be frustrated with this front line. Tommy Haugh has transformed into a star who looks every bit the part of a first-round pick. Rueben Chinyelu has overtaken Micah Handlogten as Florida’s top option at the 5, thanks to improved offensive skill alongside his ability to dominate the boards and impact the game defensively. Chinyelu’s second-half defensive performance against Boozer was as good as any showing against the Player of the Year favorite all season,” he offers.

“Alex Condon has struggled to find his 3-point stroke and had some frustrating ball-handling gaffes early in November, but everything else is there. The rebounding, rim protection, effort and motor are constants, and he’s improved his touch in the paint and at the free-throw line.”
