The Standard, a downtown Fort Myers staple for the last decade, has closed.
Brothers Chris and Doug Blauvelt opened the American comfort food and handcrafted cocktail-focused restaurant off Broadway in the heart of downtown in 2015.
When it debuted at Hotel Indigo (now The Banyan Hotel), it quickly became a favorite gathering spot for locals and visitors alike who gathered around the long bar-height tables.
The restaurant itself was lovely, with a gorgeous Florida pine-topped bar, concrete wine display, tons of natural light, and a high, silver-painted ceiling.
Elevated comfort food was served for breakfast, lunch and dinner, highlighted by its signature burgers, brunches and special events, including bingo, karaoke and more.
While Chris confirmed the restaurant’s closure via text on June 23, its doors have been shut since late May.
Seed & Bean Market, The Standard’s across-the-hall neighbor, also vacated its space recently. That moved out on May 31 after seven years at 1520 Broadway.
In early 2021, a second location of The Standard opened at Page Field Commons in Fort Myers in Square 1 Burgers & Bar’s previous space. It closed a few years later.
