VOTE: Volusia-Flagler Boys Athlete of the Week for April 20-25 presented by Halifax Health

The polls are open!

It’s time to vote for the Halifax Health Volusia-Flagler Boys Athlete of the Week for the week of April 20-25.

Last week, Spruce Creek baseball player Evan Dyett captured the honors, claiming 54% of the votes. The junior pitched six shutout innings with six strikeouts to help the Hawks clinch the District 2-7A title over University.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal gathers nominees for upcoming polls from across the area via email at cvinel@usatodayco.com. Please send a player’s name, school and notable statistics for a given week. Submissions are due no later than 8 a.m. every Monday.

To round out the ballot, our staff also picks athletes from scores and stats posted online or submitted by local coaches. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.

Voting in the online poll below will close at 10 a.m. Saturday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Emailed votes will not count.

Baseball

Quentin Berry, Trinity Christian: The senior had three hits, including two doubles, in a regional quarterfinal win over Geneva. Berry also scored three runs and drove in two.

Ryder Ritch, Spruce Creek: The junior blasted two home runs in a regional quarterfinal victory over Flagler Palm Coast.

Tennis

Indigo Stout, Spruce Creek: The junior earned wins in No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles, each via third-set tiebreakers, during the regional finals against Tocoi Creek.

Track and field

Declan McNiff, Father Lopez: The junior captured the District 6-1A javelin crown with a toss of 41.19 meters.

Weightlifting

Peyton McKenzie, DeLand: At the Region 2-4A meet, the junior posted a traditional total of 720 and an Olympic total of 655, winning two gold medals in the 238-pound weight class.
