The Southwest Florida sports team is proud to honor area high school sports programs with our monthly Top Teams list and poll.
At the beginning of each month during the high school competitive seasons, The News-Press and Naples Daily News will select the teams that stood out the month before for their stellar achievements, grit, and sportsmanship. Once we compile the list, we will leave it up to you to decide which squad deserves to be named the Southwest Florida Top Team that month.
In January, the Gulf Coast boys basketball team was voted Team of the Month with 66 percent of the vote.
Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed by Lee and Collier county area coaches to sports@news-press.com or sports@naplesnews.com. Coaches and athletic directors are encouraged to submit a nomination by the last day of each month if they have a team that deserves recognition.
Voting for the Southwest Florida February Top Team will run until 9 a.m. Sunday, March 15 at news-press.com and naplesnews.com.

Southwest Florida February Team of the Month nominees
Aubrey Rogers Girls Basketball: The Patriots won the Class 4A-District 13 title and reached the regional semifinals.
Barron Collier Girls Soccer: The Cougars won the Class 4A-Region 3 title and reached the Final Four for the first time in 28 years.
Bishop Verot Girls Basketball: The Vikings won the Class 3A-District 10 title and reached the regional semifinals.
Canterbury Boys Soccer: The Cougars defeated BridgePrep Village Green in the state semifinals and reached the Class 1A state championship game.
Canterbury Girls Soccer: The Cougars defeated Victory Christian 1-0 to win the program’s first state title.
Donahue Catholic Boys Basketball: The Shamrocks won two state playoff games and reached the Class 1A-Region 3 final.
First Baptist Boys Basketball: The Lions won the Class 2A-District 12 title and won two state playoff games to reach the regional final.
Naples Boys Soccer: The Golden Eagles won two state playoff games and reached the Class 4A Final Four.
North Fort Myers Girls Soccer: The Red Knights won the Class 5A-District 11 title and reached the Final Four.
Seacrest Country Day Girls Basketball: The Stingrays won the Class 1A-District title and reached the Final Four for the first time in program history.
St. John Neumann Boys Wrestling: The Celtics won district and regional titles and finished as runners up at the Class 1A state tournament.
St. John Neumann Girls Wrestling: The Celtics won district and regional titles and had the top local finish at the girls state wrestling torunament.
