Tropical Storm Andrea: See spaghetti models, path of 1st named storm of Atlantic hurricane season

Tropical Storm Andrea beat the odds, becoming the first named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.

The season started more than three weeks ago, on June 1.

Moving away from the United States in the central Atlantic, Andrea is expected to begin weakening later tonight, hours after the National Hurricane Center issued its first advisory on the system at 11 a.m. June 24.

NOAA predicting above-normal activity for 2025 Atlantic hurricane season

Forecasters have been predicting an above-normal season in the Atlantic basin, which consists of the northern Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of America and Caribbean Sea.

NOAA is predicting there is a 60% chance of an above-normal season, a 30% chance of a near-normal season and a 10% chance for a below-normal season.

Forecasters predict:

That’s above the 30-year average from 1991 to 2020, with 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes, according to NOAA.
