Three Brevard County players selected in 2026 MLB Draft

Three Brevard County high school graduates heard their names called on Day 2 of the 2026 MLB Draft.

Viera’s Alex Sosa, Merritt Island’s Kide Adetuyi and Melbourne’s Michael Petite were drafted June 12 after successful college careers.

Sosa was selected in the sixth round by the Athletics. Adetuyi went in the seventh round to the Boston Red Sox. Petite was picked in the 19th round by the Seattle Mariners.

On June 13, Viera’s Camden Wicker announced he signed with the Baltimore Orioles as an undrafted free agent.

Catcher Alex Sosa (Viera), 6th round, Pick No. 172, Athletics

The 2023 FLORIDA TODAY All-Space Coast Player of the Year earned a draft selection to the Athletics after three years playing ACC baseball at NC State and Miami.

Sosa transferred to the Hurricanes this spring for his junior season and earned All-ACC Second Team honors after a standout season at the plate.

In 59 games played, he led the team with 18 home runs, 71 RBI and 16 doubles as the Hurricanes qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Sosa ranked second on Miami this season in on-base-plus slugging percentage (1.119) and third in batting average (.338).

The former Hawk continued his upward trajectory following his stint with the Wolfpack. Sosa hit .291 for 10 home runs and 40 RBI as a sophomore. In 2024, he recorded a .230 batting average, 6 home runs and 24 RBI.

Sosa completed his 4-year career at Viera sporting a .388 career batting average, 5 home runs and 69 RBI. He batted over .400 as a junior and senior, hitting .418 as a junior and .471 as a senior as Viera finished as the Class 6A state runner-up in 2023.

Pitcher Kide Adetuyi (Merritt Island), 7th round, Pick No. 214, Boston Red Sox

Adetuyi heard his name called after a breakout redshirt sophomore season at Florida Atlantic.

After sitting out the 2024 season due to Tommy John surgery, the former Mustang returned to the mound in 2025 and threw 15 innings in 21 appearances.

This spring, Adetuyi impressed with a career-high 10 strikeouts against Miami on Feb. 25 and 6 strikeouts against Florida on March 3. Those performances catapulted him into the Saturday starter role beginning in mid-March.

In 73 innings pitched, the Merritt Island graduate led the Owls with 85 strikeouts. That mark ranked him third in the American Athletic Conference. Adetuyi finished the season with a 2-3 record, a 4.19 ERA in 17 appearances and 13 starts.

Adetuyi emerged as one of the best pitchers in the state during his three-year varsity career at Merritt Island. He finished his Mustangs career with a 1.34 ERA and 292 strikeouts in 183 innings pitched.

His final high school season was his best as he recorded a 9-1 record, a 0.45 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 61 and 2/3 innings pitched. Adetuyi posted a below 2.00 ERA all three seasons while throwing at least 50 innings. He finished with 64 innings pitched as a junior with a 1.86 ERA. As a sophomore, he threw 57 and 1/3 innings and a 1.71 ERA.

Outfielder Michael Petite (Melbourne), 19th round, Pick No. 580, Seattle Mariners

After two seasons at Miami Dade College, Petite excelled in his first Division I season with VCU emerging as one of the Rams’ best hitters.

Petite hit .274 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs helping VCU win the Atlantic 10 and qualify for the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2024. The former Bulldog led the team in runs scored (66), walks (45), stolen bases (22) and triples (3). He ranked second in OPS (.985) and total bases (126).

The outfielder was plunked 23 times this spring, which tied for the second most in a single season in school history.

As a sophomore at Miami Dade, Petite led the Sharks with .367 batting average, 28 extra base hits and 52 walks. He finished the 2025 season with 12 home runs and 41 RBI. In 2024, Petite hit .291 with 9 home runs, 35 RBI and a team-high 59 walks.

Petite split his high school careers between Palm Bay and Melbourne. As a junior and senior at Melbourne, Petite hit .411 with 14 home runs and 69 RBI. He recorded a career 1.334 OPS. As a senior, he hit .344 with 8 home runs and 32 RBI. Petite batted .468 as a junior with 6 home runs and 37 RBI.

Pitcher Camden Wicker (Viera), UDFA, Baltimore Orioles

Wicker signed with the Orioles organization after two seasons at UCF and one season at Wofford.

The junior was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team after starting a team-high 16 games this season for the Knights. Wicker compiled a 5-3 record and a 4.16 ERA in 75 2/3 innings pitched. He led the team with 62 strikeouts and a .211 opponent batting average.

Wicker was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after throwing a 2-hit shutout against Utah on April 25. He helped UCF qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.

In 2025, Wicker appeared in 12 games for UCF and started seven. In 33 1/3 innings pitched, he struck out 31 batters and posted a 4.59 ERA. He held opponents to a .222 batting average.

Wicker began his career at Wofford and was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team. In 17 appearances and 10 starts, the former Hawk sported a 4-3 record with a 4.28 ERA. He saved two games and struck out 57 batters in 75 2/3 innings.

During his time at Viera, Wicker completed three varsity seasons with a 2.30 career ERA and 140 strikeouts in 106 2/3 innings. Wicker posted a 1.88 ERA as a senior, going 6-1 in eight starts and 13 appearances. He struck out 70 hitters in 48 1/3 innings. His junior season ERA was 2.07. In 47 1/3 innings, Wicker went 5-2 in 11 appearances and 10 starts with 58 strikeouts.
