A 22-year-old man died and another person was transported to the hospital after a car rolled over in Indio on Monday, July 13.
Indio police responded to the single-vehicle collision in the area of Fred Waring and Heritage Palms drives around 8:15 a.m. A blue Toyota Tundra was going west on Fred Waring Drive when it appears it lost control, overturning and ejecting its two adult occupants, the Indio Police Department said.
Jason Chavez of Indio died at the scene. Cal Fire said the second person was hospitalized with major injuries.
The police department said a different car struck debris from the crash, but it doesn’t look like that car was involved in the initial incident. Westbound lanes on Fred Waring Drive, between Madison and Burr streets, are closed while police investigate.
This is a developing story.
