When mail shows up in our mailboxes, we hardly give it any thought. It just just up six days a week.
But there’s always been an elaborate process in place to get this critical job accomplished by the United State Postal Service. For example, like getting 16 billion packages delivered during the holidays in 2.5 days on average.
Local media, including The News-Press, got to see the methods behind the madness on May 6, at the Fort Myers Sorting and Delivery Center (SDC) located at Page Field.
The Fort Myers SDC is among more than 150 modern, new facilities across the country as part of nearly $23 billion invested in network modernization over five years.

State-of-the-art package sorting technology can process 4,300 pieces per hour, it increases efficiency, and it strengthens last-mile delivery.
The state-of-the-art package sorting equipment was on the tour agenda along with Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDVs).
Nearly $23 billion has been invested in the national postal network over the past five years, improve service performance, enhance workplace conditions, and support faster, more reliable last-mile delivery in Fort Myers and beyond.

As USPS expands its role as the nation’s end-to-end carrier of choice, the creation of Sorting and Delivery Centers has been a core part of transformation and modernization efforts. Over recent years, USPS has opened more than 150 SDCs across the country, positioning the organization for success by:
