The National Weather Service will be investigating reports of a possible tornado hitting Florida’s Gulf Coast in the overnight hours Wednesday, June 25.
Showers and thunderstorms were forecast for several areas across Florida Wednesday, and more are expected Thursday, June 26.

Farther north, hail the size of walnuts was reported in Tallahassee as severe storms moved through the area.

Storm Prediction Center reports possible tornado on Florida’s Gulf Coast
The Storm Prediction Center received multiple reports of a tornado that hit Wednesday evening, June 25.
“We feel pretty confident it was a tornado,” said Austen Flannery, meteorologist with the National Weather Service Tampa Bay, during a telephone interview early Thursday.
NWS teams will head to the site today to confirm it was a tornado, along with assessing its track and intensity, Flannery said.
Possible tornado reported in Largo, Florida
The possible tornado was reported at 3 SW Highpoint near Ulmerton Road, the Storm Prediction Center said.
The agency said pictures and video showing “debris and tornado damage” were received.
A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect at the time.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect at the time, with the National Weather Service warning residents “For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.”
More strong storms possible for portions of Florida
“Over, the next couple of days, the setup is favorable for more strong storms,” Flannery said, and could bring hail and gusty winds today and Friday, June 27.
