One of the nation’s most exclusive golf clubs is reportedly on a shortlist to host the PGA Tour’s season-ending event.
Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach is among the courses the tour is targeting to host the Tour Championship, the finale of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, according to a report from ESPN’s Mark Schlabach.
The Tour Championship has been hosted at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta since 2004. The event will remain there through 2027, after which the tour hopes to rotate it among other prestigious sites.
According to Schlabach, Seminole Golf Club is being considered alongside Pine Valley Golf Club in New Jersey, Cypress Point Club in California and East Lake remaining in the rotation.
The report surfaced on a day when the PGA Tour unveiled significant changes to its model, including the introduction of a two-track competitive system.
Seminole Golf Club, whose membership has counted presidents John F. Kennedy and Gerald Ford, is renowned for its privacy and has never hosted an official PGA Tour event.
Its most famous event, the annual Seminole Pro-Member, is held in late February and early March each year, often pairing top touring professionals with the club’s wealthy members.
The club has opened its doors to a wider audience in recent years.
In 2020, Seminole hosted a charity skins game to support COVID-19 relief efforts. Broadcast on NBC, it marked the first televised event at the club. Seminole Golf Club also hosted the Walker Cup, a biennial amateur golf tournament between the United States and United Kingdom, in 2021.
