NFL insider notes promising development for Jaguars' defense this offseason

With offseason programs behind us, there was a very promising development on the defensive side of the ball for the Jacksonville Jaguars this spring.

SI’s Albert Breer recently highlighted the Jaguars when emptying out his notebook from the offseason. Breer mostly focused on Brian Thomas Jr. and the wide receiver position, but at the end, he left an important note.

“One other note on the Jags’ No. 1 pick in 2022: Travon Walker, now headed into his fifth year, showed signs that he’s taken another step as a pass rusher through the spring,” wrote Breer. “Which is something to file away, given how the current regime rewarded him with an extension.”

Injuries hampered Walker’s 2025 season, but during his time in Jacksonville, he has proved to be an ascending player and someone who can impact both the run and passing games.

During each of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Walker recorded 10-plus sacks and ranked in the top 25 among his position group in quarterback pressures, according to PFF.

But as Liam Coen told Walker early in the offseason, there’s another level of disruption for him to get to. Coen wants to have to remove Walker from practice because the offense is unable to get anything accomplished with him on the field.

Following minicamp, Coen seems to agree with Breer’s evaluation of Walker.

“Travon Walker showed up in a big way,” Coen said, via ESPN.

The combination of Walker and Josh Hines-Allen, who was among the top pressure-getters last season, gives Jacksonville a dynamic one-two pass rushing punch. As a collective defense, generating more sacks in 2026 is a must for Jacksonville.
