Jacksonville Jaguars’ tight end Brenton Strange is a prime contract extension candidate. So where do things stand in negotiations?
ESPN’s Michael DiRocco recently provided some insight.
“General manager James Gladstone said early in the offseason that the team had preliminary talks on an extension,” DiRocco wrote. “However, there’s no urgency at this point to get a deal done. This regime has shown it is willing to negotiate and close deals during the season, so not having a deal in place before or during training camp is not a bad sign.”
To DiRocco’s point, Jakobi Meyers and Cole Van Lanen received in-season extensions in 2025.
Strange was a very reliable target in the passing game and totaled 549 receiving yards with three touchdowns last season. However, his do-it-all presence as a blocker and someone who can line up across the formation helped expand the call sheet for Liam Coen and add some unpredictability to the offense.
The addition of rookie Nate Boerkircher should benefit Strange greatly, with his presence allowing Coen to utilize Strange in a greater variety of ways.
An extension for Strange feels like it’s a matter of when and not if, even with the additions at tight end this offseason. His presence unlocks so much for Coen’s offense.
Wide receiver Parker Washington is another contract extension candidate for the Jaguars.
