Ilitch organization to buy casinos in Mississippi, Atlantic City

The Ilitch organization is expanding its casino operation well beyond Detroit.

Ilitch Companies recently announced plans for a new company platform — Ilitch Gaming — that intends to buy a casino in Mississippi and grow the Ilitch organization’s existing ownership of a casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to 100% from 50%.

Pending regulatory approvals for the casino deals and the formation of the new company, Ilitch Gaming would eventually oversee three casino properties: MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit, Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City and  Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort in D’Iberville, Mississippi.

Ilitch Companies CEO Chris Ilitch will be the chairperson of Ilitch Gaming.

“My mother Marian Ilitch’s vision for MotorCity Casino Hotel and our success in Detroit over nearly three decades is the inspiration for what comes next,” Chris Ilitch said in a statement.

“The formation of Ilitch Gaming marks a defining new chapter in the evolution of our gaming and hospitality business,” he continued. “We remain committed to creating memorable experiences for guests, supporting responsible gaming and serving as a positive economic force in the communities where we operate.”

Ilitch Companies acquired a 50% ownership interest in Ocean Casino Resort in 2021. The organization says that it has made significant capital investments and improvements in the casino since then.

MotorCity Casino opened in 1999 and is one of three casinos in the city of Detroit.
