The Memorial Tournament might have only 72 players in its field, but some of them will pack it in after today’s round if they’re below the cut line.
Round 2 begins with four players tied for the lead, including defending U.S. Open champ J.J. Spaun and Wyndham Clark, who won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson two weeks ago. Tommy Fleetwood, fourth in the FedEx Cup standings, and Ryan Gerard also come in tied atop the leaderboard after 5-under 67s in the first round. Nick Taylor shot 4 under, while Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Patrick Cantlay and Tony Finau had strong days too.
Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Åberg and Jordan Spieth enter four shots back, while Scottie Scheffler, the back-to-back champion at Jack’s Place, struggled on the back nine to finish 1 over. He comes into the day closer to the projected cut line, while Matt Fitzpatrick, Jacob Bridgeman and Rickie Fowler need to recover to play the weekend.
