With the Jacksonville Jaguars wrapping up their second week of OTAs, let’s put together a projection of what the starting defense could look like come Week 1.
To see our starting projection for the offense, you can find that here.
While what happens during OTAs certainly won’t solely dictate playing time or who earns roster spots, these practices do provide us with some insight into where things stand on the depth chart, along with who may be standing out early on.
So, taking what we’ve heard from those covering practices over the last two weeks into account, here is how the Jaguars defense could look against Cleveland.
Defensive line: Josh Hines-Allen, Arik Armstead, DaVon Hamilton, Travon Walker
The questions at this position group are more so centered around how the depth chart and playing time shake out behind the starters.
Linebacker: Ventrell Miller, Foye Oluokun
All offseason, the starting role next to Oluokun in Devin Lloyd’s absence has been Miller’s for the taking, so until we see someone else emerge, this will be his job. And like last season, Dennis Gardeck will be the third linebacker when the Jaguars are in their base alignment.
Cornerback: Montaric Brown, Jourdan Lewis, Travis Hunter
This trio is expected to be the Jaguars’ starting cornerback combination in their nickel alignment throughout the season.
Safety: Eric Murray, Antonio Johnson
There is good depth in the Jaguars’ safety room, and we saw our share of three safety looks last season under Anthony Campanile. Caleb Ransaw, Jalen Huskey, and Rayuan Lane are competing for those snaps.
