Leesburg Police traffic homicide investigators on April 13 arrested 29-year-old Evan Garcia of Ocklawaha in connection with the April 10 hit-and-run crash that took the life of 40-year-old Ashleah Hayes.
Garcia was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death [Florida Statute 316.027(2)(c)]. According to a police news release, the agency worked with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to take Garcia into custody.

The crash happened about 12:09 a.m. April 10 near the intersection of U.S. 27 and English Road. According to police, a preliminary investigation found that a gray Hyundai sedan traveling north on U.S. 27 struck Hayes, who was walking across U.S. 27 at the time.
She was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver left the scene before police arrived. By the end of April 10 police had found the vehicle and were conducting interviews.
