A man accused of killing a woman in St. Petersburg before leading police on a chase through Lee County faces several charges, including four counts of attempted murder, after a shootout on the interstate.
Florida Highway Patrol reports that Ladavion King, 43, remains in serious condition on Friday, July 24, at a hospital, two days after the incident. The Lee County Jail log indicates he is in custody but had not listed an updated photo of him at 10:45 p.m.
King is suspected of shooting and killing Tasha Moses, 47, a City of St. Petersburg sanitation worker while she sat in her work truck on 12th Avenue South in St. Petersburg on July 22.
He fled soon after the lunch-time incident, with troopers and deputies stopping King along Interstate 75 near the Alico Road exit in Fort Myers −about 125 miles from where he started.
He barricaded himself in his pickup and began a standoff. Witnesses said King opened a door of his truck and shot a gun, upon which law enforcement officers returned fire.
The charges he faces in Lee County include attempted murder, fleeing officers, possessing a gun by a convicted felon and firing a weapon from a vehicle. Bond has not been set, and he has a hearing set for Aug. 24 in Lee County court.
The charges are likely in addition to any from St. Petersburg. Moses was a mother to four and worked for the city for about 12 years. She knew King.
