With preseason camp opening in a few days, it looks like the Texas Longhorns are almost 100% healthy. Other than one player, UT coach Steve Sarkisian says the rest of the team is good to go.
Several of the Longhorns had offseason procedures and surgeries. One of them was quarterback Arch Manning. But all signs point to successful recoveries by all but one of the players over the summer.
After such a long season, Sark and staff took a measured approach during spring practice so they didn’t get any more guys hurt. There was only one major injury in the spring.
“I don’t know of anybody that won’t be cleared and ready to go come training camp,” Sark told the press at SEC Media Days in Tampa last week. “That’s encouraging. I haven’t seen anybody that we’re going to say he’s necessarily out. We know Kaden Scherer is obviously going to be out with the ACL, but outside of that, I think we’re going to have a full roster ready to go, knock on wood.”
Sark says fall camp is designed to build up to the season and they’ll be watching the players closely to head off any lingering issues.
“We’re going to monitor guy’s bodies like anything once we get to training camp — how much pounding or how much running certain guys are doing. We have to kind of build towards the season,” Sarkisian said.
OL Kaden Scherer (Knee) – OUT
The freshman from Georgetown was an early enrollee in January and took part in spring drills. Scherer suffered a knee injury early in spring practice. He underwent surgery for the torn ACL and is still recovering. The offensive lineman is out indefinitely with no return date announced. Given his youth and inexperience, it is likely he will miss the season.
QB Arch Manning (Foot) – Available
Soon after the 2025 season ended, Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning had foot surgery. The recovery limited Manning’s participation in Spring Camp. UT officials School officials called the procedure “minor” and said it was a “preventative measure to address a previous injury.”
But the quarterback has been fully cleared to play and has been participating without issue in summer workouts and the Manning Passing Academy. Manning said the biggest downside to the surgery was his weight.
“I had a little foot surgery,” Manning said in late June. “I got a little big. I got up to 235. So I lost a little bit. I was getting a little fat.”
S Jonah Williams (Shoulder) – Available
Two sport phenom Jonah Williams has played a lot more baseball since arriving on the Forty Acres than football. The sophomore aggravated a previous shoulder injury playing for UT baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle this spring and underwent season-ending surgery in March.
Williams has had injuries over the past couple of years. A broken collarbone ended his career at Galveston Ball High School He dealt with a bad hamstring during his freshman season in baseball. And the shoulder issue limited his freshman season in football.
Williams is cleared for fall camp, but coaches will be cautious.
LB Ty’Anthony Smith (Shoulder) – Available
After a breakout Cheez-It Citrus Bowl where he had a team-high nine tackles, Smith underwent postseason shoulder surgery. He has reportedly recovered well and is available in the fall.
S Xavier Filsaime (Shoulder) – Available
Like Smith, Filsaime had offseason shoulder surgery and has fully recovered. The hard hitting safety craves contact and should thrive this season under new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.
DL Justus Terry (Shoulder) – Available
Sophomore Justus Terry also had shoulder surgery in the offseason. The defensive lineman spent much of the spring in a sling. Terry had four solo tackles and four assisted tackles in 2025.
There was a rumor this spring Kirby Smart and Georgia were trying hard to get Terry to transfer to Athens, but that didn’t come to fruition. The Peach State native originally committed to the Bulldogs, but the five-star prospect flipped to the Longhorns, citing a bitter NIL deal.
“I don’t know how else to say it — just a straight-up better NIL package,” Terry told Rivals/On3 analyst Chad Simmons.
