Coen with injury update on Jaguars OL Cole Van Lanen before training camp

The Jacksonville Jaguars placed left tackle Cole Van Lanen on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) prior to training camp starting, and head coach Liam Coen provided a brief update while appearing on Action Sports Jax.

Van Lanen suffered the knee injury in the Jaguars’ Week 18 game last season, and he has been rehabbing throughout the offseason. He did not participate in practices during OTAs and minicamp.

At this time, we do not know when he will return, but players who are on PUP can be activated at any time once they are medically cleared to do so.

“I feel very confident in that right now,” Coen said of Van Lanen’s recovery on Action Sports Jax. “I think he’s looking great in terms of throughout rehab process. He’s the type of person who has taken this and used it to find maybe some areas of weakness in his game – or his body – that he can go attack…. And when he’s able to go on the grass for us, I feel very confident that he’ll be able to get back to his best self quickly”

Van Lanen played all over the offensive line last season before securing the starting left tackle role while originally filling in for Walker Little.

From Weeks 14-18, Van Lanen didn’t surrender any sacks at left tackle, and he ranked 21st in PFF’s run-blocking grade during that span.

Jacksonville signed Van Lanen to a three-year extension late in the season.

With Van Lanen sidelined, Little will take over at left tackle until he returns.
